After a very leisurely breakfast in bed yesterday of croissant, yoghurt, juice and coffee, I finished off blog stuff in tiger bar. I still can’t get my head around what the designer was thinking there. As I said previously, I was having syncing issues so it has chewed up a fair chunk of time, but fingers crossed, I have it sorted now. Mega bingo beckoned. Not because I enjoy getting to within 2 numbers only to be beaten to yelling ‘bingo’; or even entertain the possibility that I will win. No, I play because my daughter figures that is a compulsory part of cruising. It’s a little bit different on this cruise. Firstly, no bingo marker needed; numbers have ‘flaps’ cut so you only need to bend back a little bit of paper to identify that ... read more

Today is our one full day to explore the charming city of Malaga. Malaga is a port city along Spain's Costa del Sol. It is a beautiful city with amazing architecture and picturesque walking streets. We enjoyed a delicious morning coffee with churros and then wandered through a covered market area and then into the lovely streets for a few hours before returning to our hotel to escape the heat for a bit. In the afternoon we visited the 11th century Alcazaba of Malaga (Moorish Fortress) which is the mightiest and most extensive in all of Spain. It was lovely to explore and reminded us a lot of the Alhambra in Granada. The fortress also offered great views of the city. Malaga is the birthplace of Pablo Picasso so late in the afternoon we toured the ... read more

This morning we drove to the neighbouring city of Benidorm to pick up our rental car for our trip to Malaga. We were early for our pick up so walked down to the seaside and enjoyed a coffee. Once we had our rental we took some back roads back to Albir, so Pat did not have to drive on the highway. Once back we loaded our rental car and headed out on our 5 1/2 hour drive to Malaga. It was a hot drive as the temperature was in the 30's the whole way. We stopped in Almería for lunch and a walk to stretch our legs. Then we continued west towards Malaga, passing an area which has the largest concentration of greenhouses in the world covering over 26,000 hectares. Several millions of tons of greenhouse ... read more

Geo: 37.0194, -4.56288Today we are off to El Torcal de Antequera, a nature reserve in the Sierra del Torcal Mountain range. The area is known for its dramatic limestone formations and karst landscape. Along our way we stopped in the historical town of Antequera which dates back almost 5,000 years. Our coffee spot was in a pretty plaza with a view of a bullring built in 1848 and still in use today. We then headed up the windy mountain road to El Torcal de Antequera to start our three kilometre hike through the amazing rock formations. Climbing to heights of around 1,300 metres the views were spectacular. It was a lovely experience to hike at El Torcal. As we headed back towards Estepona we saw many shepherds herding their goats and sheep towards home. In the ... read more

Geo: 37.0194, -4.56288Unfortunately weather conditions prevented us riding yesterday. The wind was so strong and gusty that it was too dangerous to attempt the climb up to El Torcal so we had to go with Plan B.We shuttled up to El Torcal, a high rock formation, passing a couple of cyclists on the way.... our decision not to ride was justified as they were basically going backwards, with the wind pushing them dangerously towards the traffic. We hiked for a couple of hours through the rock formations of El Torcal, with the highlight being a point where we could see the coastline of Morocco on the horizon. Then we went off to explore the Alcazaba fortress in Antequera which was constructed by the Moors in the 14th century to counter the Christian advance from the north. Then yet ... read more

Geo: 37.0194, -4.56288Hmmm.... the ride profile today didn't look too intimidating... but there was a surprising amount of climbing... around 1,200m in 70km and the really strong headwind made it a real challenge. In one particular part of the climb we had about 500m of a tailwind so we could get our speed back up to normal and then the switchback turned and literally we all came to a grinding halt it was so strong!Nevertheless the route was mostly very scenic...although we did have our heads down a fair bit whilst battling the headwind.... I guess seeing a wind farm in one of the valleys should have given us a bit of a clue!Lunch break was in the very attractive Parque de Ardales by the embalses (reservoirs). The water was an amazing blue and it is ... read more

When we awaken this morning, it is great to see the sun shining again. Looks like Theresa has unfortunately gone down with George´s throat infection etc overnight, so we are pleased we cancelled the planned Gibraltar visit. Instead, we head into Malaga town and have a very good wander around. We found a local Farmacia and purchased Theresa some cough medicine and some cough lozenges that are for infections. Anything else will have to wait now until we get home in two days time. As it is so nice outside, we decided to spend some time on the deck of Posh. The waiters up there are great and a really good at remembering everyone´s drinks. Whilst we were there was a Spanish military helicopter flying around overhead. After a while he dropped off a group of ... read more
