one of the gates to Alhambra
We have a record. We were the first in the breakfast room. Unbelieveble. This is it. We visit where we came for:" The Alhambra". We were picked up from the Hotel by a mini bus. It was a real U.Nation arriving at the Alhambra tour, with Aussies, Germans, South Africans, Americans and a Dutch couple living in Canada for 61 years. The Spanish guide, fitted us with ear phones and gadgets, so we could hear him without having to shout. The tour took us to several sections, The Alcazaba is the oldest section. With towers dating back to the 13th century. We wondered from rooms to palace and patio the Los Leones. The last ones name came from the fountain in the middle, held up by twelve stone lions. The Palazio of Charles V was never finnished. He commisioned it in 1527. He never returned to Spain. The collums are original and look like as inlade with different sort of stones. The timber ceilings are from ceder, imported from Lebanon and are 600 years old. The carvings on the walls are magnificent. The writing in the carvings are telling about rivers of water, honey, milk and wine. The main living quarters of the Sultan

Alhambra
are amazing cool. There was one room there, where the writer Washington wrote the famous book, " The Tales of Alhambra ".The bad part of Alhambra is, it was build by prisoners, held by the Arabs at the Martyr's field. The Generalife is a serene Arabian setting of delicate fountains and lovely gardens. The gardens were terrased and on several levels. It gives a nice coolness walking through it. Alhambra has several entree gates, one of them is the gate of Puirta De Las Granadas, which means Gate of Pome Granates. On top of the gate are two open Pome Granate. Here we learned something. It looks like Granada comes from Poma Granat. Here we came to the end of the Alhambra tour. A full day of walking. Tomorrow we leave Granada. Till next time Liz & Allan
