Me eating churros
Churros are sausage shaped donuts that you dip into hot chocolate. I didn't like them very much. I didn't get to rest much before it was time to go to the last country on my trip which was Spain. We got the train to Stansted Airport which is outside London and when we got there I had spaghetti bolognaise which was not very nice and then we got on the plane to Granada, which is in the south of Spain and it took about two and a half hours to get there.
It was a hot evening when we got there and my Dad picked up the hire car and we drove into the city to our hotel and it took a long time because we got lost on the way. When we had checked into our hotel we went out and had a drink and an ice cream. It was really late - about 11 o' clock at night but there were still lots of people out. In Spain it's really hot in the summer and people have a sleep in the middle of the day called a siesta so that they can stay up late when it is cooler.
When we got up the next day, we went for a walk up into the
old part of the city called the Albaicin. It is where the gypsy people live and my Dad had a beer at a place on the way. I had a Fanta Limon. I had lots more fanta limons because they are really nice Spanish drinks. We had lunch at the top of the Albaicin. It was really really hot and after lunch we got the bus back to the hotel where we had a siesta. In the evening we went to a busy street for dinner and I had calamare.
The next day we had to get up really early because we were going to the Alhambra. The Alhambra is a huge palace and castle and gardens on the hills above Granada. Over a thousand years ago, Muslim people from Morocco called the Moors used to rule Europe and the world. They invented a lot of things we are used to today including a lot of our medicine and our maths and other things. For hundreds of years the Alhambra was the home of the Muslim Kings until the Christians conquered them about the fourteenth century. The Alhambra was amazing and I got in for free because I was
under twelve. There was an amazing echo room called an amphitheatre. When you stood right in the middle of the circle of the room and spoke, your voice sounded amplified to yourself but nobody else could hear it.
In the afternoon we drove ino the mountains called La Alpajarra to a village called Capileira where we stayed for two days. It was a village of white houses on the hillside 1500 metres above sea level . The hotel had a pool with a great view and we went for lunch and then my Dad let me go to the pool by myself and then he came along later. We went for dinner at a really nice restaurant at the next village down the mountain called Bubion.
The next day we spent a long time by the pool. That was a good thing because it was really hot and you couldn't do much. In the afternoon we drove up the mountain as far as the road would go about 2200 metres. It was cooler that high up. I found a river and we raced with leaves. It was a game called Pooh Sticks. In the evening we went to
the same nice restaurant in Bubion.
The next day was the last day for us in Spain and we drove down to the coast which wasn't a good idea because we got stuck in a traffic jam. We were only there for ten minutes and then we had to go back to Granada and have dinner before catching the plane back to England.
