We woke up in our tent backside of a tankstation. It was very very hot like every other day. I was literally meltin g under the big hard sun. After packing our stuff we started to ask for a ride. We had no plan about where we wanted to end up that night but going to Zagreb, Croatia was eventually our intention. I have a friend from there, Perica, whom I had not seen for 4 years. So I was really excited about visiting him there.
Luck was on our side that morning. First we got a ride from a researcher , that was also my first attempt to study in the car for the coming exams in August. He dropped us somewhere and after a while a Jazz musician was very kind to make place in his car for us by replacing his huge bass. it was so nice talking about the world of music and we both hope to see him perform somewhere. We crossed the border with him and he left us at a tankstation. Mattia has also been our first ride from a musician and he kindly gave a cd from one of his bands as
a gift.
Soon after we were picked by a Slovenian couple. Martina and Antonio were both photographers and were such talkative and friendly people. They had so much to tell about Slovenia. Well , we both are pretty impressed and I think that we will soon be returned to Slovenia to see the beautiful forests and observe wild life. This nice couple even drove us further than where they were heading to so that we could hitchhike easier.
We were not far from the border and reaching Zagreb didnt take much time with 2 rides after that point. We were left somewhere close to the centrum and we decided to have a drink while waiting for Perica's message. Thijs saw the tiny entrance of a cool open air cafe and we sat under a big tree. We were talking about our adventures when a guy from the next table joined our conversation. He was very friendly and we really enjoyed talking to him. A bit later Perica called me but I couldnt explain him. The guy from the next table reached to my phone to help. After he gave back the phone with a big smile he said
'Your friend Perica is also my friend'. In the whole Zagreb we sat next to the guy who knew my friend. What a coincidence! We then learned that the guy from the next table, Tom, was an underground musician and had a band called 'For'. Perica being the urban legend of Zagreb was the organisator of concerts and events.
After some beers and chatting with Tom, we left to meet Perica. He was not changed much , still amazingly energic and friendly. Later that night he also let us listen to Tom's music and we both think that he is not only a guy who plays guitar but a real musician. Soon we felt really tired and easily fell asleep on the matras Perica made ready for us.
