Ljubljana
Our fancy jail cell Geo: 46.0546, 14.5044
So this city wasnt on the original plan, but we thought we couldnt get to Bled without first going to the capital, Ljubljana. Train travel can be pretty complicated and the train station staff are not always helpful. So far we have just accepted what they have told us- when they say we HAVE to take a particular route, we just thought it was true. lol, but its not! There are many ways to get from one place to another, there just may be several connections. Anyway, on our way to Ljubljana we passed Bled on the same route... so obviously we could have just gone there. BUT, the draw for Ljubljana was the really cool hostel we got to stay in. Its a renovated military prison, and its the best hostel we have stayed in thus far. Each jail cell was renovated differently and artistically, which we werent expecting. We thought it would be a simple cell with beds, lol. This was much nicer, so were not complainin! The beds were huge, too! The only thing particularly cell-like was the door, complete with bars. The hostel also had an awesome breakfast with eggs, granola and yogurt, bread, cheese,

Our fancy jail cell meat, cereal, coffee, juice, etc. =) Heaven.
Last night we wandered the city a bit and then found dinner in a place serving Slovenian food. Chris and I got different dishes and split them. I got a Country platter, which had several different kinds of meats. Two sausages, pork, steak, turnip, cabbage, stuffing, etc. Very hearty and greasy but good. lol, my poor stomach isnt used to it! And then Chris ordered the Stallion steak with roasted potatoes. Yup- we ate horse! And I might add.. horsies are tasty. Its similar to beef, but different as well. =)
On our way here we met two other backpackers on the train. One got off at Bled, but the other was actually headed to the same hostel as us. So we hung out today. We walked all over the city taking pictures. We also headed up to the castle, which was some sort of medieval meets IKEA hybrid. Not very cool. Then Chris and I went hiking in Tivoli park, which so beautifully and wonderfully green!
Tomorrow we are running off to Bled in the morning! So excited!
