My flight out on Sunday was at lunchtime so thankfully not an early start this time & plenty of time to get the pets all sorted before heading to Standstead for 10:30am to meet up with Chavaunne. We got our bags checked in early & went through security, got a tasty early lunch at Giraffe - aubergine tagine & burger. Once at the gate the notice said "boarding", then "final call" & finally "gate closed" with all passengers still standing in the queue at the gate! We
finally got on & up in the air slightly behind schedule. It was very cloudy for most of the flight but it cleared as we flew over the alps. We made up some time and landed only 20min late and met up with Vicky in the tiny arrival area!
We picked up the car, annoyingly a smaller one than we ordered - we could only get ONE suitcase in the boot! Vicky drove us into Ljubljana & got us safely to our first apartment. It was a lovely place, three seperate bedrooms over two floors. After dumping our bags we headed out to a local pizza restaurant that does a vegan menu. Unfortunately
after being ignored for ages we were told that there was no vegan menu on Sundays & there was nothing on the standard menu. So we headed into the city centre and ended up at Most by the river where I had pasta in truffle sauce, Chavaunne has a squid salad & Vicky managed to get a risotto without cheese, all washed down by a nice local Sauvignon. Chavaunne & I then got tiramisu ice-cream for the walk home! Vicky used Pokemon ap to give us a guided tour, but we failed to find most of the sites it mentioned!
(Vicky say's I must mention the old Ford Taurus going back to nature in the apartment parking lot as well as the DC6 plane & a pretty butterfly she spotted at the airport whilst waiting for us!)
Sunday started with a black tea for me (we'd not gone shopping yet) & Chavaunne was suffering from lack of caffeine. So after loading up the car we walked into town looking for a cafe on the way... No joy but a local store provided iced coffee & breakfast! We headed first up to the castle where we pottered around the outside
& the gift shop (lots of Friderik the rat!) the wandered down to the river where we saw the Dragon Bridge, Triple Bridge & Cathedral (Church of St. Nicholas) & bought some gifts in the market. We had lunch at Organic Garden - a burger place specialising in veggie & vegan food.
We headed back to pick up the car then drove north to Kamnik where we bought supplies (food & wine!) & headed to Kamniška Bistrica where we got the 4pm cable car up to
Velika Planina . As the other half of the cottage was empty we got to use both sides (handy as the kitchen equipment wasn't evenly distributed)! Chavaunne & I went for a short walk up the meadow - beautiful meadow flowers and a couple of ravens calling overhead. We got back to the cottage just as we started hearing distant thunder & cooked a simple supper of veggies, pasta & tomato sauce... & wine of course! It felt like we were the only people up there!
Just to finish off I woke at 3am & popped outside - I was rewarded by a stunning display of stars, including one shooting.
