Hi everyone!
All is wonderful here in Slovenia! Kids are having a ball and really starting to get into the lingo! Just great!
Thanks for all the comments you are posting on the site, its just amazing that at the touch of the button we are all so quickly connencted.
Tash and Andy, great to hear you are enjoying yourselves. Good luck with the play this weekend.
Jason Hepi brzdaj! Wishing you a special day and hope you celebrate in style! All the best from all of us in Slovi Land!
Guru, for your information, Mum was gonna try to go into Westminster Abbey, but time was not on our side, and therefore it will be something to see the next time we visit! And something they may appreciate more when they know who he was!
Dad, I hope you are feeling ok and on the mend. How is Nana?
Simbo, we have seen so many cyclists here in the mountains especially, and the kids were joking, saying it could be Uncle Simon!
Terra Yana, just to make you feel better, today it was 17 degrees and poured with rain, I mean poured,
bucket loads of rain! Yet yesterday was 27 degrees and we were at the beach!
Hi Oma, hard to talk to you, cos you are never home! Love you too! Opa is fine! He is in his element, especially when kids are around! He has a cold, but today he was great.
Seriously Jess and Katie, we need to think about France and perhaps extending the trip a little when we all come for our combined 40th birthdays!!
Yes Katie, the English countryside was gorgeous! I t did remind me of 'midsomer murders'- just waiting for Inspector Barnaby to walkaround the corner in Stratford!
To everyone else, a big hello and I hope you are all ok!
We have had a very busy week exploring new parts of Slovenia with Hamish and Marie and having a ball. I will let the kids give you the details when we blog together, but until then, here is a sneak peek!
Last Saturday when we arrived, we just accquianted ourselves with the city and walked around. Lovely clean city Ljubljana and the centre of the old city is now closed to traffic, so its wonderful. Great restaurants, shops
etc! We picked up Marie and Hamish from the airport that night.
On Sunday we drove for the mountains, into the mountains, around the mountains and up and down the mountains. Beautiful scenery and then arrived at the picturesque Bohinj Lake. wedges between the Alps and what a setting it is. We took the cable car up to the top of the skiing mountain Vogel and took some breathtaking photos, and Marie and Alex got quite freaked out by the ride! Spent the afternoon splashing around and after dinner we caught the train with car carriages back to Most Na Soci. Fabulous ride through the mountains- quite literally through the mountains in tunnels!
On Monday we set off for Predjamiski Grad and Postonska Jama. Kids were amazed at it all. Alex asked lots of great questions and even Mia found the caves remarkable. Hopefully they remember what the difference is between stalectites and stalecmites?! From there we continued to Lake Bled. And Wow! Kids were in awe. ˝It's just like the pictures in the book mum!˝ WE took a row boat to the island, rang the church bell and back to shore. We all swam in the Lake,
not warm, but heck, when in Rome....! We had dinner on the Lake and of course the famous Vanilla Slices!
Wednesday we drove to the seaside town of Koper. Had lunch with an Aunt of Damians and then went for a swim at the beach. Kids were thrilled when we told them we were going to the beach. For them the best part of going to the beach is making sandcastles! To their shear astonishment, there was no sand! Just rocks! That's why crocs (shoes) were invented!
Today we went to visit Opa and his family in Vrhole! Great time had by all, infact, Mia decided to spend the night with them when it was time for us to leave! She is staying with Opa and will then play with Vid tomorrow until we arrive!
Damian and I are loving it here and trying hard to speak as much Slovenian as we can! But every where we go, people speak English! WE feel quite relaxed here too! Apartment is gorgeous and i highly recommend it. Perfect location, all amenties, including internet that doesnt fail!
Today we just managed to get tickets to the Slovenia V Australia
soccer match to be held here on 11 August. We have our Aussie tops and flags, so ......Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, oi, oi, oi!! WE will be a spot of gold in a sea of green and white!
It is now almost 12,30am and time for me to get some sleep. I drove today for the first time this holiday. Bucketing with rain, on the freeway, where they pass you doing well in excess of 150km/h and I was doing 100-110km/h. Anyway, let them go! Also we have a Hyundai i30 stationwagon. Fabulous little car! Runs on the smell of an oily rag, lots of guts, great boot and comfy...... my gosh when did this blog turn into Top gear Slovenia?! Gee... i am my father's daughter after all!
Alrighty, take care everyone, Happy birthday Jason! Have a glass of red for me in front of the fire (if you have one), stay warm and stay tuned for the the kids installment after the weekend when we are back in Ljubljana! I'll continue drinking the beer here, Lasko is serving me well!
A special hi to 1/2JB! Alex will be back to blog soon. We are having such
long days, up at about 9 (sleeping in a little) and then not home til midnight most nights! Alex will continue blogging about London and then Paris. Hope Grandparents day went well and was enjoyed by all.
Love to you all, Lahko noc, good night!
Sam xx

Hello
Dober dan my Darlings. How wonderful to see you all enjoying yourselves. My favourite place Bled - the island, the castle and the vanilla slices - it cannot get any better than that ! You all look like you are having a fabulous time. Missing my " Miskas" very much and looking forward to seeing you all and giving you a huge hug. The photos of you all look just fantastic and I am enjoying looking at them and really happy that you are having such a fantastic time. Marie and Hamish you both look relaxed after such a hectic few months with work. How does Hamish like our beautiful Slovenia? Opa also looks relaxed and happy. I am missing him very much. I go in the dark and home in the dark. The cats waiting patiently for me. Life here is as usual - busy!! The weather cold. Omi is OK. She is coming up this weekend and spending some time with me. We are going to see Cinderella at the college on Saturday night. Happy Birthday Damian - thinking of you on your special day, enjoy it and may you have a great year ahead. Love Mum Oma xxxxxx
