On the Road
This a view from the road Yesterday I and my friend had a walk from Birsk, my native town, to Sosnovy Bor - a place located some 15-18 km from the city. I had the idea of making foot walks in the roundabouts of my town not long ago, and yesterday this plan was completed. There was no need to go on foot from Sosnovy Bor back, we drove in a car, which took some 15 minutes only, while the walk itself took about 4 hours.
Sosnovy Bor is a picturesque place on the bank of River Belaya. There used to be a children's camp and a rest home there. Now everything seems to be abandoned, there is no sign of cheerful life as it used to be in 2008, for example.
I worked in Sosnovy Bor as child leader in 2004 for the first time. And that was an excellent experience, and I liked it so much I worked again, and again, and again. I wonder what happened and why the camp was closed.
The road to Sosnovy Bor is very usual, it has nothin particular. Simple rural landscape, you know, with grass, birches, and corn. A village named Silantyevo, where we had
a very short rest and went to the shop to buy something to drink. The salesgirl there was rather lovely, and my friend spoke of the way he liked her during the whole walk. But that's no interesting matter.
When we reached Sosnovy Bor, I was pretty tired. There are pine trees all over there. And there is a piece of wonderful scenery - the Belaya River - from the dancefloor (as it used to be past years). You'll see a photo of that.
But the most exciting place in the whole vicinity is the Yulanda River and its smallist one-meter waterfall. You walk in the wood for about 30 minutes, on rather a dangerous path, because one could slip and fall down into the river itself, and then comes the roaring, though the waterfall is very small.
Me and my friend enjoyed the waterfall very much, taking pictures of each other. I felt very good about standing in the water, and then even tried to get down into the waterfall, and managed to do it. It is absolutely not deep, knee-deep or a bit deeper. We spent more than half an hour there and then started
our way back. There was about 1 kilometer to go from the woods to reach the motor road, after which my friend called his girlfriend who drove us safely home.
It is wonderful that one can talk about different things when taking such long walks. Our meal was cookies and gas water. At first I wanted to make this trip on foot there and back, but the lack of time would not permit it.
One has to be careful about little beasts that live in the forest, that is small mosquitoes and godflies, which can bite your bare legs and everything. I wore jeans so I did not bother about them; my friend in shorts did.
My first and foremost aim of this walk was to check whether I am able of long trips by foot. I suppose I am... But that was only just a first try. And second, I wanted to see the waterfall again. As to the godforsaken camp, I have very dear memories about it, and miss those times.
Oh, the joys of walking!...
