So yesterday we saw so many things and were so blown away. Last night we went on a river boat. Now to give you some context whenever we go to a city and it has a river we always and really always take a river boat to see the sights and gain further information about the city we are staying in. Well all I can say is a Moscow river cruise is not like another river cruise I have ever and I mean ever taken before. We board the boat just like we always do. We go up top as you do and then all we hear is Sting, Rag and Bone Man etc any commentary on what we are passing i.e. the Kremlin NO just music - big lesson make sure any trip you make on a boat etc has commentary! Well you remember yesterday I mentioned in the breakfast room is a waterfall and the harpist I thought I had better get a photo to prove I was not talking gobbledegook
So I start my birthday with a Russian breakfast which includes a glass of bubbly, smoked salmon and caviar don't think this is a bad way to
start the day to be honest. Also, when you know your smoked salmon is hand carved you should take a step back and think "Gordon Bennet" am I lucky or what! I must admit I decided against a blini as not a pancake lover. I think I could start the day like this every day but hey ho when back in the UK I will get a bump back down to earth when I have my weetabix and skimmed milk with a mug of Yorkshire Tea!
Well not many people can say that they celebrated their 60th birthday in the Kremlin - I must admit I was waiting for President Putin to get one of his guards to come and find me and ask me to have dinner - I am still waiting but it is still early, ha ha
Red square and inside the Kremlin is absolutely amazing you have to be very respectful and not walk on the road unless you need to cross it and then you must not cross until you can cross on the pedestrian crossing. You know about it if anyone does not respect this rule with whistles and shouts by the
guards. Even local Russian people have a go at you if you disrespect this rule.
I have decided to go back to the hotel to soak my feet I always knew a bidet would come in handy on this holiday, haha. It really seems we have walked the width and breadth of the UK.
So here is todays bit of information for you. A major statue in Moscow which was also voted the ugliest was meant to be Christopher Columbus however when no American buyer could be found the designer put the head of Peter the Great on. Moscovites also could not understand why this statue was placed in Moscow as Peter the Great moved the capital to St Petersburg. Thats you snippet of information for today.
Just got back to the room to a birthday cake and a birthday card from the hotel and lots of lovely messages from friends and family - thank you everyone
