From different people and/or departments. Last Sunday was my cooking day in preparation for all of the celebrations. I thought Jamie was crazy when he brought me a suitcase full of jello. I wanted a couple, not the entire store. He said, I thought maybe you wanted to do Jello shooters for your birthday parties. I decided that would be a good way to get rid of the flavors I did not like as well as merge two different cultures/traditions so I was busy making Jello shooters. I can not remember how many batches I made, but I went through two liters of vodka making them...lol
I also put my crockpot my sister got for me to good use. The only problem, I converted from pounds to kilograms backwards so instead of requesting 2 kilos of ground chicken meat to make meatballs, I requested 4 kilos which was way too much for my recipe. Thank goodness for freezers so I have plenty for more later. But I made my own recipe of chicken meatballs using some Russian spices I found here. They turned out great! One problem because my converstaion, you can find bread crumbs around here. I should have just used oatmeal, but did

Look at that nice crockpot and smell those meatballs. A lot of good food. not think of it until after the fact. Of course the bread I had around the house would not dry to save my life and I lost a lot of skin and nails on the shredder trying to make bread crumbs. I had plenty left over so I saved them just in case I ever need them again.
Then based on Jetta's suggestion, I made a Jello cake. The flavor was excellent, but the looks were TERRIBLE. The biggest problem, I used Kool Whip from the can so of course once all the air left, it just became a liquid mess and then turned brown. I am not sure why brown, but it did. It also did not help not having large enough cake pans or the same size pie pans, but the concept of red and blue to make the Russian/American flag colors turned out great. Again, it looked terrible but tasted really good, thanks Jetta for the idea and Jamie for the Jellos packs.
I had the entire third floor smelling really good on Monday. I also kept to my morals and only served non-alcoholic sparklingly wine. It did not taste very good, but I think
Jello Cake
Looked terrible, but tasted really good! it was the right thing to do but still support the culture of having sparklingly wine to help celebrate. As you see by the pictures, I received several very nice flower arrangements. Several of them smell so good. I left one at the office and brought the other four home. I also received several other very nice gifts from other people and/or departments.
Monday evening, which of course if volleyball night, I took a brownie and Jello shooters. I had not seen anyone do this before so I was not sure who well it would go over and/or even if I should bring alcohol there so I made some with and some without vodka. I was late getting there, partly planned so I set up in the sauna area the shooters and cut the brownie so everyone would have a piece if they wanted. I also had Svetlana translate what everything was and for what so everyone could read it. Of course they always think it is so funny me bringing in my notes, but I actually brought a tear to a few eyes. I was very thankful for the guys allowing me to be part of the team.

They make the apartment smell so nice and add a very nice touch (and do not make fun of the vases...lol) And explained the Jello shooters were a lot like the Obninsk volleyball team of mixing different countries/cultures like have done by allowing me to play on the team.
Again, not knowing the protocol, I just left everything out and figured people could help themself. Well, everyone headed to the sauna and no touched it. I was a little disappointed, but figured that is more for me...lol After one round in the sauna everyone clears out, which is not normal, well they all gather around the table and ask me to sit at the head of the table. After reading my note outloud, several had very nice things to say. Poor Freddie, the only one on the team that knows a little more than basic English became my translator. But it was very nice so have our brownie and shooters, which most took the fork to try to "eat" it as oppose to "shoot" it, everyone headed back to the sauna. Oh, the vodka shooters were a big hit. I had a few alcohol free ones left, but no one with the vodka so I guess that was okay...lol
Now, this is just Monday, now we have Tuesday so I will post that one on a new posting since both have a lot of pictures by themself. I do not have any from the volleyball.
