16 -17 juillet " Qui est-ce qui m'a jeté un sort? J'perds tout c'que j'aime et même le nord Hé! On a volé mon contrôle! Tout ... read more

J'enfile donc rapidement un ... read more

On first impression Bucharest reminds me of Paris without the dog poo on the pavement and the people here are able and willing to speak to you in English. The cobblestone streets are not as narrow as in Paris and wind though the old quarter creating a setting for tourists and locals to enjoy the balmy summer evenings and we did exactly that, making ourselves known at one wine bar in particular, where we sampled some very good Romanian wines of varieties that were mostly unknown to me. The two waitresses there adored Nathan and he had a ball playing with them. We didn’t realise that our drinks came with free babysitting! At the same bar we met Daniel and Hillary, a couple from Brisbane, also travelling through Romania. It is amazing how far we go ... read more

Hard to believe this is my last day in Brasov. I’m trying to conserve money so have decided to have a relaxing day and just check out the town. I went through my suitcase this morning and was able to dispose of around 5kgs worth of clothes that, while I like, I could not be bothered carrying for the next 2 weeks. I have decided that this is a great way of helping people to get rid of their unwanted junk, pack it up, strap it on their back and make them carry it until they are willing to throw it away. Once I made it into town I sat and read my book in the park and enjoyed the sunshine. After this I decided to go for a walk to the Black Tower and the ... read more

After waking up and mastering the shower in our ensuite – there was no curtain and the water sprayed out from every angle, it was seriously impossible not to completely saturate the floor and walls – I headed off to find the bus to take me to Bran Castle. I made it to the station with 3 minutes to spare, paid for my ticket and managed to clamber aboard the already over-packed bus. It was a 45 minute journey to the Castle. Stopping in at a few towns along the way. There was a small child sitting on his mother’s lap in front of me. Absolutely adorable with the biggest blue eyes. Cluck cluck cluck haha. He was periodically crying though I noticed that he stopped crying and became quite fanscinated when he saw the band-aid ... read more

So just when I was getting use to Bucharest it was time to say goodbye and head off to Brasov. I took one final look around my hostel – Villa 11 – and headed over to the station. I managed to find my platform and my train, getting on 40 minutes early so that I could secure a seat for myself, and a place for my luggage. It was all very informal, there was no checks done of tickets until the train was on its way to Brasov, so I was able to just sit back, read my book, and enjoy 3 hours worth of forest scenery. It was incredibly relaxing and definitely reassured me that I have made the right choice to do the majority of my travels by rail. It was all so lush ... read more

July 31, 2015 - (afternoon) - I took the 3:30pm train to Brasov, and it took an hour. At the train station I had to get a bus to town, and when I arrived in town, I met Markus, a Swedish guy also trying to find our location on the map. We found it and walked together to my hostel. He had nowhere to stay yet, so he tried my place. It was just starting to rain. The woman told him there were no places left so he headed out. She also told me she had no record of my reservation and that there were no beds free. I showed her the emails I had from her colleague to the contrary. It was the first of many disappointments in Boemia hostel. She talked to her boss ... read more

Staying such a relaxing place we were in no hurry to set off to Bran, only just over a 2 hour drive to our next stop just outside of Bran, where the history Castle of Dracula's although there never was a Dracula and Stoker Bran never actually saw the castle. It is however a well preserved Castle and a national landmark of Romania. It is one of the most beautiful castles that I have visited in Europe, the tour is self guilded which allows you to take your time to visit all of the gounds without being rushed. You must make an appointment time to enter, then you are on your own. We stayed at a lovely family pension, with our own suite but shared the kitchen and dining room with the other guest, because it ... read more

From Vlad the Impaler to Nicolae Ceausescu Romania has over the years had its fair share of unpleasant rulers. Ruthless dictators all over the world seem to have two things in common: they like to torture people and tend to have a liking for erecting big buildings as monuments over themselves. In Romania things aren't much different from any other places. Hence there are a few palaces and castles around and we would now like to write about the ones we visited. Bran Castle Bran Castle is likely the most well known of the Romanian castles and palaces thanks to it being the home of the largely fictional character Count Dracula in the Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. Having seen Bran Castle we must say that using that particular castle as setting for the novel was wise. ... read more

Rano 20 minutovy pesi presun na autogara 2 (strada avram ianacu resp oproti stadionu). Preco sme sa nepresuvali mhd ? no lebo pesi toho clovek vidi viac :) Napr sme videli pekny dreveny kostolik, tiche ulicky, miestnych ludi atd Na bus stanicu vstupujeme od stadiona, zadnym vchodom, preskakujeme kaluze, rano bola dobra leja, a dostavame sa na nastupiste. Mensie obzeranie stanice, nic extra, stanica z roku 0. Paradne to vyzera. ... read more
