So the last thing you read was that we were stranded in Barcelona airport after our flight to Madrid was delayed by 5 hours which was going to mean we were going to miss our connecting flight to Porto. A few things happened since then though. As I said I spoke to an extremely rude Ryanair staff member who informed me that Ryanair was in no way responsible for delays, missed connections or anything resembling customer service and that I had to wait until 2 hours after the scheldued departure to speak to someone in regards to compensation. Also, she couldn't tell me what that compensation would entail, apparently she wasn't allowed to tell me any information about why the flight was delayed, if it was coming at all, other flights or anything that a Ryanair ... read more

we got to porto on the night and managed to make our way to la ribera. we got there and we got ready to go out but found that everywhere was closed for fuck sake! we got back and taylor started to cook. we made friends with 2 old women who insisted trying to talk to us in Portuguese thinking we would understand. as usual every1 relied on me to talk! they told us the police would end up causing a fuss with us parked where we were parked because the whole area was a public transport area for taxi's, busses and trams. they ended up pinching about 5fags and a glass of port but in return they give us a glass of home made wine, 4croissant type things, 4pears and a brush to clean the ... read more

... read more

Promenade Concert in the "Coliseu do Porto" - March 2009 An opportunity for the Association to visit the "Coliseu do Porto", and hear a Concert performed by the Vila do Conde Youth Orchestra and the choir from the Viana do Castelo Music Academy. A splendid performance by many young musicians: "As Danças do Príncipe Igor de Borodin", with Maestro Cesário Costa. Afterwards a delightful Buffet meal was taken in the fine setting of the Grande Hotel do Porto. A popular event and one which may be repeated.

Time for the "Associação Porto-Bristol" to celebrate their 2008 Christmas Dinner A good end to the year The Oporto Cricket & Lawn Tennis Club is the regular venue for our Annual Dinner, thanks to the kind permission of Club members who also participate in our activities, and this year was no exception. First, we had the formal part to the night, with the Annual General Meeting of the Association being well attended. Once this was completed (on time) the move was swiftly made to the Lounge, with a chance to relax. A lovely evening and dinner was enjoyed by all, with some 41 people present.

In October 2008 the Porto-Bristol Association had the opportunity to study Roman art and architecture through the "Vale do Sousa", in Northern Portugal. This one day special Itinerary, organised by Doctor Duarte Pinheiro and Anabela Marques, proved a resounding success for the 14 members that went along. A first class tour of some of the beautiful historical monuments / churches in the region, with lots of useful information by our Guide, made the day very interesting. In addition a good lunch was provided in the Quinta de Cedovezas. At the end of the day it was on to see the house and gardens of Casa de Juste, ending up with an English Cream Tea. A good Tour and we intend to take another Tour next year!

In March 2008 the "Porto-Bristol Association" went dancing along the Yellow Brick Road all the way to the "Casa da Música" in Porto. This was for a rather special Concert, performed by the "Orquestra Nacional do Porto" , who played the music score for the complete Judy Garland film. Afterwards 19 members followed the road to the "Shakesbeer" restaurant, for an enjoyable lunch. In April, the second event for this year was a walk/gathering in the "Parque da Cidade" (Porto), followed by a talk by Maria João Tavares (member of the Association) on “Comércio Justo” , and tea and cakes (their own products) in the gardens behind the store. ... read more
