Bonjour à tous, La surprise d'hier au soir au souper. Lorsque j'ai enfin trouvé un restaurant qui m'accepte, car seul, j'occupe une table de 2 ou 4 personnes, je me fais refouler, compte tenu du potentiel qu'il y a dans ces rues piétonnes, je peux le comprendre. Installé en terrasse, à la table à côté il y a 3 couples, d'anglophones. Je verrais plus tard, que les 6 ados sont installés sur une table derriere. 50cms me sépare de ces 6 personnes, mais qui parlent, et rient très fort, la centaine de personnes de la terrasse doivent en profiter, moi ça me sature les oreilles. This poem was written approximately April 12th, 2009, while I spent time with friends in Sesimbra, Portugal Rays of light travel along a cloudy sky, deeply penetrating beams, across the countryside. Passing through the air, striking molecules aplenty, Only to land on my body, and warm me to the core. What a splendid day in Sesimbra, en la praia escondida. Down the slopping hillside, loose rocks underfoot, encountering fields of sea roses, rosemary and lavender. The slow taste the dust, kicked up by enthused youth. An afternoon of activity, followed by fine Portuguese cuisine and la hora de siesta. After a day filled with fun and excitement, it is time to rest. ... read more

Currently, I write this from Sesimbra, about 40 kilometres south of Portugal´s glorious capital and largest city, Lisbon. I had previously spent a week in the south of the country, in the Algarve. Many of you may be familiar with Portugal; we have quite a large number of Portuguese descended residents in Toronto (and Cambridge). It is a country living in the shadow of it´s larger, and more economically influencial cousin, Spain. Portugal is still struggling to find it´s identity within Europe and the World. They have recently (in the 70´s) emerged from the shadow of dictatorship.The country was closed to the outside world. They are now faced with problems such as movement from rural areas to cities, and as a result, farms that have been within families for generations are falling into disrepair due to ... read more
