25thMay We've been at sea for 8 days now and couldn't believe it yesterday when it had been a week already. The time has passed very quickly for both of us. The first couple of days were sunny and blue skies, and no wind so we had to do a bit of motoring. Then, we had a mackerel sky at night, followed by big, black storm cells all round us. I took so many photos of the big banks of clouds as they really were very impressive. So then we had a few days with these big black clouds all round, some contained rain, most of the big squalls passed us by on either side (thank you Lord), but none of them contained any wind. We know we owe you a blog entry or two but we have been keeping busy. We are no longer on the island of Faial as we left there July 31st and sailed to the island of Sao Jorge. We spent a busy week on Sao Jorge and on August 7thwe had a great 10 hour sail to the island of Terceira with 2 other boats. To catch you up to date we will split up the blog entry. We will first finish up with the last couple of things we did on Faial before we dive into the beautiful island of Sao Jorge in the next blog. The Azores Archipelago is made up of 9 islands. When we first planned our trip to the Azores we had hoped to visit all of them, but as we took 3 weeks to explore Flores and we have already been in Faial for over a week we are sure we won’t be able to get to them all. They are divided into 3 general areas – the western area consists of Flores and Corvo, the central group is made up of Faial, Pico, Sao Jorge, Terceira and Graciosa. The eastern most islands are Santa Maria and Sao Miguel. After a 28 hour sail/motor-sail we arrived in Horta on the island of Faial.
