Lisbon (Oeiras) - Sines - Sagres - Lagos - LATE BREAKING NEWS We tied up in Oeiras Marina, smack bang next to a boat called Solitude, a very large and beautiful looking Hanse 54. Small Nest was a couple of boats away and, as usual, saw a few other boats we had shared marinas with since we struck Portugal, a few of them being British and Northern European Yachts heading south to make the Canary Islands for the start of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers which leaves from Las Palmas on the island of Grand Canarias for the 2800 mile crossing of the Atlantic to St Lucia in the Caribbean. We had been talking to Willem and Haike about their arrangements of doing the A.R.C and making their way through the Panama and across the Pacific ... read more

Good old Lagos....what a crazy and wonderful place! I arrived in Lagos after an intense over night 13 hour train ride from San Sebastian. I was on a bench on the train with 6 other men for 13 hours! Luckily I was able to crawl under the bench and lay on the floor beneath them for the majority of the trip and was even able to grab a few hours of sleep! After a train transfer in Lisbon and another in Tunes I finally made it to Lagos...thank god! Lagos is such a cool town. Narrow streets packed with little shops and bars, open air restaurents everywhere in all the little plazas, always bustling with life and cool things going on. My hostel was called "Gold Coast" and it was for sure one of the nicer ... read more

Lagos…whew!....What a wacky crazy week! I must admit I wasn’t planning to go to Portugal but when every second person you meet is saying.. go to Lagos!... go to Lagos… its hard to ignore. So long story short ‘I went’ and it was loads of fun. Since being there I reckon I’ve told another 20 people to go and about half already have. Basically Lagos is the poor’s man’s Ibiza. It’s a massive party town down in the Algarve in the south of Portugal located right on a beautiful beach. Unfortunately however, the tourist population is about 70% Aussies’ which is a bit frustrating, especially if you’ve travelled half way around the world to get away from them in the first place. In fact, it’s the only place I’ve been where you regularly hear the words.. ... read more

We travelled to the south coast of Portugal on the 5th of june. Spend 5 hours in a bumpy, local train with no options for buying food/water, got us feeling pretty sick midway there. Live and learn kids, which has become our motto when somethings goes wrong(even though everything more or less has been going smooth so far!). Got to Lagos late a night and were in no mood for socializing. Therefore it sucked even more that we couldn´t find the hostel that we booked. Tired and hungry we finally found a sweet, old man who let us sleep in his guesthouse. Next morning we went out to find our booked hostel, the rising cock, in Lagos. And with cock they mean roaster.. ofcourse! Pretty sweet hostel and pretty sweet place on earth. The coastline west ... read more

I don’t know if I have a severe writers block, or if its because I haven’t had very much time to myself the last couple of weeks, but my blog is lacking. I’m sorry. I will try to revive it and remember what has gone on in the last couple weeks. Primero, the weekend before last, was my very own first road trip across Europe. It sounds grand, and I am pretty ecstatic about it, but what really happened was that my friend Megan (who came to stay for a couple weeks to learn the ropes of traveling Europe) and I rented a car. My first time renting a car! And in a foreign country! And all the details told to me completely in Spanish! And completely under my name (and her credit card… good ... read more

This weekend my friends and I went to Lagos, Portugal. It was about a five hour bus ride from Seville. Me and seven other friends left Friday afternoon for our weekend getaway! We got to Lagos around 8 pm, checked into our hostel and went out for dinner. It was my first European hostel experience and it was awesome! Since there was eight of us, we actually got our own apartment with six beds (we had to share) and a bathroom to ourselves and a full kitchen for less than 20 euros a night! Mama (the owner of the hostel) even made us crapes for breakfast with fresh strawberries and bananas! On Saturday we laid out on the beach all day (got the full European beach experience for the first time if you know what I ... read more

Well....... I do not know where to begin! Portugal has been a great chance to throw all the rules out the window, leave the sites behind and drink, party and sit on the beach. I can't remember the last time I had a holiday like this but it was much needed. Kelly (an Aussie teacher I work with at Bannockburn Primary) and we planned to fly into Lisbon and see where life took us. The Algarves were seriously on our minds. So we headed to Lisbon and stayed in an awesome boutique hostel called the Lisbon Lounge. This hostel was much more like a hotel with ultra modern decor and very clean rooms. We had no plans to stay in Lisbon for long so the following morning we headed for some on the run site seeing ... read more

Waiting for Anne, Graham and Ben It is now Sunday afternoon, 29 March, two weeks before Easter. Thus A, G & B have got a good deal with Easyjet and Touriscampo (where we are stopped) for a few days in the sun. We have experienced a little expense here with the radiator leaking while we were in Spain. Unfortunately we could not find the leak at the first garage as it was raining hard and so it was all wet anyway. We moved on to a favourite town, Tavira, where we found the garage which solved our problem for loads of euros. This meant that we had to wait around and we used a parking space at Pedras d'el Rei with access to Isla Tavira over a pontoon bridge. A lovely spot with the added advantages ... read more

A Proposal in Portugal Who would have thought that I was going to get such a huge surprise on our one week holiday in Portugal? Well it was obviously on the cards, but a lovely surprise to be proposed to on a beautiful beach in Lagos. And yes the answer was defiantly YES!!!!!!!!!! We started our adventure in Lisbon on a city tour bus, the bus took us to all the must see attractions. Our favourite being a castle (Torre de Belem) on the shore line. It was fun climbing the narrow, crowded staircase and finding a beautiful view at the top. We saw some amazing statues and architecture and I enjoyed walking over the draw bridge to get into the castle. The city streets were decorated with tiles with pretty decorations; some of the houses ... read more

Despite staying still, life keeps coming at us. The caravan remains in Turiscampo. We keep meaning to move on but it’s not quite that simple at the moment. Two weeks ago we decided to fly home for a surprise week-long visit to the parents/in-laws, intending to pack up on our return and start touring again. The trip home was easy. The RyanAir flights a bargain at 30 Euros each, return . We had packed home made sandwiches to eat on the way over . I enjoyed mine, but winced when I bit down hard on a seed in the bread . “Ooh that hurt. I wonder if I’ve fractured a bit of my tooth or filling?” I thought but it didn’t trouble me again so I forgot about it. We hired a car at East Midland ... read more
