4/15/07 Faro-->Lagos
We caught the bus, and after about two hours and thirty minutes of beautiful scenery we were in Lagos where we were picked up (It was so nice not to have to walk all over the place with our bags (we would have been walking for a while too, because it was fairly hard to find)), by one of the owners of the place we were staying at, and driven to the guesthouse (which was basically just an apartment in which we had one of the rooms). We got ready (which included putting on as much sunscreen as possible) and headed straight for the closest beach. The weather was so nice (it was about time we had a little sun this trip). We just sat right in the sand. I lasted for as long as I could (I like the beach a lot, but I can only lay in the sun for so long. I get bored) and left Jenny and Sudie to bake while I went to “explore” and take some pictures. I ended up walking up this hill along the water to try and see if I could find anymore beaches (the one we were at
was really crowded). I followed some signs and went down a few paths and ended up right above this amazing little beach that was completely devoid of any other human being. The view from the top of all the rocks was beautiful. By the time I made it back to the others the sun was already beginning to go down so we headed back to the apartment where we changed and then went in search of a grocery store. After dinner, Sudie was in the shower and Jenny and I were in our room hanging out when we heard a huge commotion. Through our door, which was slightly open, I saw a large group of people carry a very drunk girl into the other room in our apartment. I decided to go check it out; I walked through the door, and nearly ran into Pete (the guy that I had met on the bus from Seville---Apparently he had come across this girl (our drunk roommate) in the street and offered to help take her back to where she was staying). It was the craziest thing; I mean what are the chances? We ended up following them (there were a couple

Jenny, Me, and Sudie of Canadians also) to this bar called the Three Monkeys. I was told that it was one of the popular places in Lagos to go (it was pretty dead when we got there---but it was also a Sunday). This place was hilarious. There were a couple of dogs (one lying on a sofa, the other sitting on the bar), and the bartender was completely drunk (he kept giving people free shots and then taking one with them). It was really quite entertaining (plus I met another person from Colorado!). After about an hour Jenny, Sudie and I decided to leave, so, once again, I said goodbye to the Australians and we headed off in search of our apartment (it took us a while to find since we weren’t really sure where in town we were).

After layers of sunscreen, we headed off for the beach (not just any beach, but the one that I had found yesterday). It was so nice. The beach was perfect (unfortunately the water was freezing—yet there were still people swimming). We all just laid in the sand for a good portion of the day (periodically applying sunscreen). At about two we

View from the boat decided to take a boat ride along the coast. It was pretty cool. We were in this small little boat, and the waves kept rocking us. The boat driver only spoke Portuguese so when we would come to a ‘special’ rock formation he would talk to me (I was the closest to him) and tell me what it was. I had absolutely no idea what he was saying but smiled and nodded my head anyways as we all took pictures. After the boat ride, we walked to the bus station to figure out which bus to take to Lisbon tomorrow, and what we were going to do with our bags until we left (we hoped we could leave them in the apartment, otherwise we would be taking them to the beach with us). Then we just walked back to the apartment where we had dinner and went to bed. Surprisingly, lying out in the sun and doing absolutely nothing the entire day is really quite exhausting.

We packed up our stuff, left it out in the hallway, and then headed back down to our beach (by this time, we had basically staked our claim to it).
The beaches of Lagos are really very beautiful, plus we were having good weather for a change which made it even more enjoyable. Once again, after lying for as long as I could I went to walk around. I walked past beach upon beach, before turning back. After saying goodbye to our beach we had to make our way back to the apartment, grab our stuff, and then head on over to the bus station. For me, the time we had in Lagos was plenty, though I think Sudie and Jenny could have stayed longer. I managed to come away slightly tanner (well, as tan as a white person like me can get without getting burned), and a little more rested than I had been so all in all it was great, plus I was able to see the stunning Algarve.
