April 14th

Woken up by a peacock crowing this morning, he clearly has an identity crisis.

A few people were enjoying the pool last evening in the sunshine. A lady of proportion walked by in a pink costume, the bottom of which at the back was like a thong. I wasn’t quick enough with the camera but you don’t need much imagination, believe me. If she’d stood still I could have parked my bike. More vans, campers & caravanners including some with Portuguese plates turned up but it was still fairly quiet all told, probably for Easter weekend.

Back in Sagres were a youngish Spanish couple with a greyhound, who exercised it whilst riding their bikes. They are now on this site too & I recognised her & she gave us a really friendly wave – small world.

Cathy went to use the WiFi & the S Irish chap next door wandered over to chat, & could he chat! Within 2 minutes every word was f, it was like a whole series of Father Ted rolled up into 30 minutes despite Cathy coming back. Nice chap all the same, with a Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon prism tattoo on his bicep. They’d been travelling for 7 months in a Ford Transit van – he seemed a bit of a lad even at 58.

Off to Evora on foot & had a wander round which was very pleasant despite the heat. We went into a pottery shop, again, & I had to inwardly smile because the poor old chap handling the ceramics had Parkinsons - I had visions of Greek weddings. We found a little restaurant up a side street with a roofing terrace. Cathy had goats cheese with a pumpkin jam (?) baguette & I had a traditional Portuguese dish which sounded very grand – basically it was a thin pork escalope with French fries & a fried egg (or hegg as the waiter called it) All very nice all the same. Home via the supermarket as we needed toilet chemical liquid but no surprise when they didn’t have it. Out for nearly 5 hours & the family on bikes next to us were still packing up having started before we left. They left later with their little dog in a basket on a rack.

Tomorrow it’s North again to...somewhere.
