Monday morning would be a full day of sightseeing in and around Krakow, including Wawel Castle and the Old Town. Unlike other Polish cities, Krakow's buildings and monuments were not destroyed during World War II. Wawel Royal Castle - Zamek Królewski na Wawelu. Built in 1502-1536 for Zygmunt I. Royal Residence with arcaded galleries. Inner Courtyard. Historic Centre of Kraków. UNESCO World Heritage site inscribed in 1978. "The Schloss (Zamek Królewski, on the broad Wawel hill at the S.W. end of the old town, was founded in the 14th cent. by Ladislaus Łokietek, but later conflagrations and other injuries have left only a number of large separate buildings. Until recently used as a barrack and hospital, it is now being equipped as an imperial residence and national museum. The main building, in the Renaissance style, dates from the time of Sigismund I (d. 1548). The arcaded court is interesting".--Baedeker 1911. DSC_0437

Kościół św. Andrzeja - St. Andrew's Church. Romanesque stone church built in 1079-1098. The Baroque domes atop the octagonal towers were added in 1639. Kościół św. Franciszka z Asyżu - Church of St. Francis of Assisi (Franciscan Church). In the nave are statues of five saints who founded religious orders: Basil the Great, Benedict of Nursia, Augustine, Dominik and Franciszek of Assisi (Stanisław Wójcik, second half of the 17th century). Thank you for your comment! Krakow is beautiful and it is original, not destroyed during World War II. I'll be continuing to describe our discoveries at other Polish Cities. Gdansk was a great surprise.
