This morning we were doing a walking tour of Bergen and needed to meet our local guide at 10am. This meant plenty of time to hbae breakfast and get ready. Our guides name is Olga and she is from Russia but is married to 'a viking'! It was raining again this morning but I had my wet weather gear on, so was feeling quite comfortable. As usual, the first thing anyone tells you is just how much it rains in Bergen. Olga told us rains on 280 days of the year, which is more than what I said in my blog yesterday. I've been here two days now - and it has rained on both haha. We started our walk towards the harbour and Olga shared interesting information along the way. It was challenging for her ... read more

England continued to spoil us with great weather right through until we left. We filled in our remaining time walking and finding a few new places and walks. Also went up to London to help, in a small way, Alex and Kevon move into their new flat. Nice to see where they will spend the next year at least and they are both not too far away from their respective hospitals. A couple of meals in country pubs ended our brilliant time in England before leaving Pete and Helens and departing there on Thursday the 2nd August. Its nice to think that we will catch up with them in NZ over Christmas/New Year. Norway greeted us with our 2 lovely granddaughters holding signs of welcome dancing at the entrance to arrivals in Bergen. It is so ... read more

I have decided that I really enjoy being on, and sleeping on, a ship! I had a very good sleep last night but was rudely woken by my alarm at 8am! After a slow start, I got up and showered and sorted out my bag, as I needed to be out of my cabin by 10. I headed down to Deck 4 in search of some breakfast - wow, that was crazy! I must have gone there in peak time, as it was hard to find a spot to sit. Eventually I bumped into Felicia and she had a seat at her table so I joined her. The food selection was great and I had porridge with dried fruits, nuts and yoghurt. Coffee was ok and also orange juice. Back to my cabin and I finished ... read more

All in all we spent five nights in Norway, travelling from one side of the country to the other and then back again further north. Our first stop was in Oslo, and then we had part of a morning's respite north of the Telemark area where we had a much too short visit to the Vemork Museum, learning about heavy water and the history of the plant that was blown up in WWII. This is an amazing museum; our young guide, Simon, was an exceptional teacher. Most of our group wanted to spend more time here as those who knew about this plant were fascinated by the information offered, and those of us who hadn't known about heavy water wanted to learn more. But on this tour there was never enough time; we always had to ... read more

Wednesday. Our neighbours popped around to say they were off to find some internet, we thanked them again for a pleasant evening and sent them on their way with homemade cookies. Housekeeping and maintenance have decided to stay for a few hours, there's washing to do, the sun is out and there is a breeze to dry it, the hob still needs another looking at and of course the water heater always could do with another looking at. It was 3.00 pm when we left in search of a supermarket and a camper service area. On our way out of the car park we had a look in a mountain hut on the hill opposite, it was small but had a stove, a wooden bed a small table with some food left on it for the ... read more

Mother nature obtained some revenge for the nice to perfect weather we have been experiencing. While not a total wash out, yet close, Bergen is marred by light, and fairly constant drizzle. This comes as no surprise to us as Bergen averages a maximum of sixty sunny days per year. After the very long day at the Pulpit Rock we had reduced our itinerary here, which became even more truncated with the rain. While disappointing, we are thrilled this did not occur yesterday at The Rock. And the rain did not preclude our planned lunch at the fish marked. We are sending this post out of order as Prekestolen will be much longer, and we are simply savoring the pictures. Soon, so can you. Bergen is a very cute city with a long and powerful history. ... read more

O... read more
