Under sail.Under sail.Under sail.

A bit of a lean on as Viv enjoys the silence of sailing
After another drive to see an old theatre we left Preveza and up sailed up the gulf Sea which runs inland. Found a secluded bay and settled in for the night. Left the Gulf sea and headed down to an island called Levkas which has a canal that seperates it from the mianland. Through this canal we entered into the Inland sea. Anchored off shore, just of the beach infront of a beautiful house that we all thought we should own. There are some magic situations along the coast and on the islands, of beautiful houses and places. We had lunch and the cooling swim. We then went down to the island of Skopios, which is the island that Aristotal onassis owned, and were Jacki Kennedy spent a lot of her time. Settled in for the night with a swim and meal. Wasps were a problem here so we did have to move a couple of times. Friday the 12th we moved down to to a village called sivota. Beautiful bay and village so we stayed the night and had a great meal etc onshore. Next morning when we left we had tp pay a local diver 100Euros th get the

anchor free of the tangle of anchors and cables. We feel this must be a very nice little earner for them as we imagine this would happen a lot. Of to the island of Cephalonia{or Kefalonia depending on the map you look at} and the town of Fiskardno which as usual was beautiful again. Very very hot, well over 40. We ended up staying here for 4 nights on the quay as the winds got up very high out to sea. Neat place to stay as we could go to a small beach and swim and be lazy or walk around to the heads were there was a few old places to climb about on mostly to hot to do much. We did get a car one day and went around the coast to visit some caves at a place called Sami. On the way we droped down the cliff face {amazing road} to a very small village on a head land with a castle, called Asoss. One of my favourites so far. Then on to Sami and the caves. These are called the Drogarati caves and you go 95 mtrs down into the big cavens. Worth avisit. Also the Melissani

cave which has a lake that you are taken by boat around. the stalactites are aged at 16000 to 20000 years old. Once again worth avisit.Lunch in a bar called, wait for it, Captain Correllies. Yes this is the area that the famous film was made in. We even went to the beach were the beach scenes were filmed and it certainly is a magic setting. After this we drove up into the hills to visit an old Citadel. 188BC. Awsome views and setting and a wonderful feeling of peace surrounding the whole area. Back to the boat for the usual. We had drinks and dinner here with 2 couples from Auckland, whom we had meet in Durbrovnik. Very interesting and nice people. They are sailing around in a beautiful boat which they will then ship back to NZ. Fiscardo is a neat place to stay and as you moor onto the quay and there is no charge, it is very cost affective and the meals at the heaps of available places are unexpensive. Moving on tomorrow, Wednesday 18th.

Delightful setting and the water, although warm, is very refreshing.
