On the move
The boat being taken to the launching area. Down the road, round the corner, not a problem. After a month without my MacAir I am now back on line. We are in Norway at present and the computer has just been returned to me. Disapointed that it stopped, but I will try to feed through a general report of what has been happening over the last month. I also have been able to download thousands of photos onto the computer, so I will get some of these onto the blog as well. Hope that everything is of interest.
The last blog was from Durbrovnik and the boat was in the water, ready to go. We sailed from there for about 7 hours down to Montenegro, were we intended to stay for a couple of days. We sailed around the whole area and finally settled for the night in a bay with a few other boats at anchor. So hot all day and we were immediatly into the sea for a cool down. Magic. Next morning, picked up a few supplies in the town and then headed to the open sea for a day/ night sail. Very flat and so we motered through the day and through the night and finally reached the
YES!!
The flag is up island of Corfu mid afternoon the next day. A village called Kassiopo. Highlights of this overnighter. The sunset, a swim in the middle of nowhere, a nearly full moon, the sunrise and the feeling of being completly alone on the ocean. Over night I slept until 2am then joined Martin, and then Doug, on watch. Checking the radar and keeping an eye out, only the odd vessel passed by along way away. Really quite neat. Martin at one stage was joined by a dolphin which came by the boat at about one in the morning to say hi. Fantastic colours but not very lively. Shame it was only a blow up kids toy. In I went for a walk and found a little beach among the trees which was beautiful. Couldn't resist a swim and once again the feeling of solitude and peace was fantastic. In the village we had the usual few drinks, a meal and a few Ouzao to help us sleep. One problem that we found is quite a common problem in the Greek Islands is that our anchor became stuck on old chains/anchors on the bottom. Martin being the fittest and the youngest, and as it's
On the move
Sailing past Durbrovnik his boat, the one that has to fix problems, had to dive down and unwrap the it from its captives. Hard work and he was quite stuffed by the time he had achieved it. I of course was a great help watching from the deck.
We then set off around the island to the main port, Corfu, were we went into a marina called Mandrki below the old castle and settled in for a few days at the quay. We had to wait for a few days for Viv and Di to arrive. Needless to say, we found that this was a good opurtunity to swim eat and sample the local beer and wine. Very very hot still, and I found that midday on, I am not able to achieve a lot in the sight seeing. Over the next few days we tidied up a few odds and ends around the boat and the girls arrived after a long trip from NZ, tied but clad to be here. We decided to stay on in Corfu until the Saturday. We then set of to sail south dropping into various places along the way. I will bring these things up to
