Janine and I headed to the boulangerie to get some baquettes and criossants for breakfast. We also went to the supermarket and picked up berries and fruit and other items to add to the table. Jess prepared everything again and we all enjoyed breakfast together. I needed to leave the apartment by 10:45 to head to the train station as I needed to get to Charles de Gaulle airport in time for my 2pm flight to Tromsö in Norway.
We headed off down Boulevard St Germain for about a 12 minute walk and Con was kind enough to take my suitcase. This time we took the direct route with no stops along the way and guess what? Google maps was accurate! As I already had my ticket I was ready to leave - so said goodbye to all with hugs and kisses and then I was on my way. A solo traveller once more.
It turned out to be very easy to get the train and I was pulling up to Charles de Gaulle airport less than 45 minutes later. I then needed to jump on a shuttle train to Terminal 1 which was quick and easy to do.
i was flying to Tromsø via Oslo with SAS (Scandinavian airways) so found the correct in check in counter and after a bit of confusion was quickly checked in. The lady then advised me where to find the lounge - say what? Turns out my ticket was the equivalent of business class so I had lounge access at this airport and also in Oslo. Yay me! I found the lounge easily and it was right next to my gate, so i settled in to relax and enjoy a Bloody Mary I made for myself with a few nibbles.
Once boarding was called I was fast tracked into the planes and had seat 2A - which was in the first row and by the window. Yay again! The flight to Oslo was just over 2 hours and they served me a meal and wine. Nice way to fly. I settled in to catch up on 13 Reasons Why on my iPad and before I knew it, we were landing at Oslo at 4:30. I then made my way to the lounge and relaxed as I had time to kill before my flight to Tromsø which was due to depart at
6:30pm.
Once again I had seat 2A but this time it was in the second row. I had a snack and then watched more of 13 Reasons before getting ready to land at Tromsø. What a view out the window! Actually, I had fun mapping the whole journey from Paris - we flew over Belgium, Rotterdam, Amsterdam and then north to Norway. We landed in Tromsø at 8:20 and i had worked out there was a shuttle bus at 8:40. My bag came off in time for me to just grab that bus which was great - only took less than 15 minutes to the city centre and the last stop was right outside my hotel.
After checking in I settled into my room. I decided to head out and explore the town a bit, which is easy to do at anytime here as there is no nighttime! What a cute little town with a lovely harbour. You can see another town with the Arctic Cathedral on the other side of the water and in the distance there are mountains with snow on top. I decided to have a glass of red wine before retiring to my room
- there is a pub right out front of my hotel. I asked the lady if she has a wine list (most Norwegians speak English) and she said no, they only have a house wine but it was Italian wine so would be good. I said ok, I will have a glass of red wine. I then noticed she walked over to a cask and turned on the little tap to fill my glass - the horror! And that wasn't the worst part - it cost about $16!
Back in my room and time to relax. I have four nights here and am going to use the time to recharge and also catch up on my blog. I have about 8 big days to write about (the last time I wrote was before coming to France!) so I knew it was going to take some time. Ah, the midnight sun where the city never sleeps! Very freaky that is still so light so late!
