Tuesday, July 1-Oslo-5:21 a.m. On Monday I was again awake from 2:30-7 in the morning...ugh. Thank god the internet works. Finally back to sleep until 10:30...time to get ready for the bike tour of Oslo! I take the short walk to the tiger statue outside the central train station where I meet Graciela, the tour guide and sole proprietor of AlternativOslo, a bicycle tour operation specializing in showcasing off the beaten path neighborhoods of the city in addition to some of the more traditional sights. Graciela only lives here (where her boyfriend is from) for three months during the summer (smart girl) running this business and the rest of the year she lives in her home country of Argentina. We are also joined on the tour by a Kiwi couple that currently lives in Abu Dhabi ... read more

Sunday, June 29-Oslo-6:00 p.m. Awake at 2:30 a.m. Watching videos and reading online off and on until 7. Jet lag! Finally back to sleep until 9ish. I don't want to get up at all now but I want to try to get on a proper schedule so I must. English breakfast tea to start the day and meeting new arrivals to the apartment, two students from Belgium, as well as Martin's wife Gung and their daughter, a very strong willed little 2-3 year old. Cute though. Shower and get ready to go, leave the apartment and discover the Deli de Luca, which seems to be a chain. Buy a real cup of coffee, yogurt with granola and a banana. Back to the apartment to eat it. Leave again and walk to the central train station, finding ... read more

Hello, I'm not one of those creative writers and I'm not even the one who would read blogs. Even though I'm the one who can just bulletpoint things out, my friends adviced me to start with this. Thus I created this blog more to keep people who I know updated and not repeat the same story everytime people ask me "So how is your trip going on?" But feel free to check if you find anything interesting. So I started to plan the trip just three weeks ago and till know I just know how to get to the supposed start point - Tromso, the north part of Europe. Everything else will clear up on the way. I hope... First day was spent efficiently: Glasgow -> Edinburgh (flight, and I hate this so much, but promised ... read more

We arrived in oslo early in the afternoon after a beautiful train ride through the Norwegian countryside. Other than customs jumping on the train and questioning us about where we were going and having a dog sniff the carriage it was a peaceful journey and didn't require any changes which was nice. We decided we would find a spot to camp before sorting food and drinks and after some discussion decided to take a bus and then commuter ferry to an island to the south of oslo. We found loads of other campers on one side of the island, it was like a city of tents, some looked like they had just set up but others seemed to be of a far more permanent nature. We had a chat with a Frenchman who happened to be ... read more

Fredrikstad & Oslo Norway 5 & 6 June 2014 After crossing from Sweden into Norway with a heavy cloud in the sky and a little rain. Not even this could have lowered our spirits because we have been looking forward to actually seeing the amazing scenery we have seen in photos....and more. Norway is one of Europe's most sparsely populated countries. With a population of only 5 million people and a land area of 385,802 km2, the population density is only 16 inhabitants per km2. Most of the population are Norwegians. The indigenous Sami people traditionally inhabit the northern part of Norway, that along with parts of Sweden, Finland and Russia outlines an area known as Sapmi (or Sameland). Other recognized minorities are the Kven people, Jews, Forest Finns, and Norwegian Romani Travellers. In recent years, ... read more
