01 Sculpture Park
Looking into the sculpture park. Geo: 59.9138, 10.7387
We left camp at 8, an hour later we arrived in Oslo. First stop was the Viegland Scultpture Park. Gustav Viegland (1869-1943) designed the architectural outline of the park. There are more than 200 of his sculptures here. They represent human relations and emotions. It was an interesting park. We then drove to the Viking Ship Musuem. Here are some of the best preserved Viking ships ever found. The ships here were found in burial mounds by the Oslo fjord. They were buried more than 1100 years ago and were used to carry their royal owners to the other side. It was really interesting and has made me want to learn more about the Vikings. Then we drove to the Kon-Tiki Musuem. Kon-tiki is the name of the raft that Thor Heyerdahl used to travel on in the Pacific Ocean, it took him 101 days. He set out to prove that Polynesia was in the range of balsa rafts from South America. Was interesting- makes me want to go to South America! Next museum was the Polarship FRAM. FRAM is the worlds strongest ship and has been used for polar expeditions. The only good thing about this museum was
02 Statues
Interesting statues along the bridge. that we got to go on and in the ship. The rest wasn't interesting to me. The rest of the day we had free to explore. Bridget, Anita and I found something to eat and we wandered about the city.
Would have liked to see Edward Munch's 'The Scream', in the Natinal Gallery, but because it was a Monday, it was closed. We met the rest of the group and found a pub to watch another soccer game.
