David, Katherine, and I left for the Netherlands on Saturday morning. Katherine had a cough, but we thought it was just a cold and that she was getting over it. Before we left Baumholder we stopped by the local post office to pick up some packages. The main post office is right by where we live, but the packages weren’t there. David said they were in this little shop that sold backpacks and bags. The place had a little German post office emblem on it, but it also had a sign for “LOTTO.” I thought it was just a little store that sold lottery tickets and had a post drop-box or something, so I thought David was crazy when he wanted me to stop there. I didn’t even get out of the car with him, but ... read more

Hello everyone, I finally got around to updating the journal. It's been a very busy few weeks. Arrived in London after a very dodgy flight from bangkok to London. The seat I was sitting on wasn't bolted to the floor so I spent a few hours standing in the isle while they tried to fix it......needless to say they never did so I ended up sitting with the hosties for the rest of the trip....not that that is necessarily a bad thing. Arrived in London and was thrown into the deep end with peak hour on the tube. Thankfully Gail (Vicki's friend) met me at the airport and sorted me out for the next few days. I was so excited you couldn't wipe the smile from my face....I was finally here after such a big build-up.....and ... read more

i arrived yesterday in Amsterdam after 17 hour flight. I was totally trashed yesterday wandering around aimlessly and wondering what the hell I was doing here???? Amsterdam is beautiful, cute houses, canels, very friendly english speaking people( i couldnt get the work out the trains at first and people were really patient with me), very chilled and relaxed vibe. Last night i slept for 10 hours and woke up feeling great. Met Amanda (i met her on the web) this morning and she invited me to come with her and another gril from her hostel get a bike and ride around. Of course i was worried at first (there are trams and bikes going everywhere and i don't know the road rules) but it was great riding around for 5 hours looking at heaps of people ... read more

Easter is a 4 day weekend in Germany so I took advantage of having an extra day off and headed for Amsterdam in The Netherlands. It’s a city filled with canals (165), bikes (600,000) and tulips (sorry, too many to count). I arrived in Amsterdam by train on Good Friday a few hours before the tour group I was meeting was due to arrive so I headed for the Van Gogh Museum. The museum has the world’s largest collection of Van Gogh paintings in the world as well as works by other artists. I bought myself a poster in the gift shop. url=http://www.vangoghmuseum.com/collection/catalog/vglpainting.asp?ARTID=50&LANGID=0&SEL=1&PERIOD=3&SORT= (The Yellow House, 1888) I figured this would be my Amsterdam souvenir as opposed to tacky wooden shoes or windmills. ;-) I met with the group just in time for dinner and then ... read more

Ok, now Mum - I don't want you to panic.... :-) Today's been a huge day - we were all up bright and early this morning to head off on a bicycle ride through the village of Edam (just outside Amsterdam). Thankfully the entire country is quite flat so the ride wasn't too taxing - although a fairly large group of us did manage to get lost for a little while... After that it was off to see how cheese and clogs are made, and most importantly, sample some of the local cheeses (mmm, I LOVE Edam cheese). Soon after we were dropped in the city of Amsterdam to fend for ourselves for the day. We'd already had a bit of a glimpse of the place last night when we went on a canal cruise and ... read more

I've got cold, my feets are hurts, nothing to say... It was a nice try to write a diary but I think a bit booring. Firstly I was looking for Internet cafe. Than it was another problem how to download pictures. Not everywhere its possible. Finally I found connection and USB port in my hotel, well may be its interesting for somebody to see this pictures at least. I would say this is not the best idea to walk through the white streets. Amsterdam is much better when it warm and sun is shining... Today is gonna be better day, I hope (in terms of whether) It was sun in the early morning. Pore people think they survive when nuclear winter comes. No they don't........ read more

I didn't expect there will be so cold. I would say it is my first time when I see snow in Amsterdam, and probably for other tourists too. I've met some people, they were in shirts while temperature outside is minus 9 C. But if we arrived in any case we have to party. First day we were walking a lot. We live practically in the heart of old city near the Koninklijk Paleis. Its nice location for visiting museums.... read more
