Hello Everyone, Sirry about the last post, we put captions on all of the pictures and for some reason they did not upload. We are so busy seeing things that we barely have time to look for an internet cafe. Right now Terry is in a museum and I am quickley writing this as we are to meet in five minutes. It took me the better part of an hour to find this computer. We will post more pictures soon. Brian... read more

Even though we had had a nap the previous afternoon, we somehow managed to sleep until 11. We awoke to an empty house, as Lenny, Joyce and Misha had gone down to the shops. Soon they were back, and Beck made everyone sandwiches for lunch (breakfast for us!). After lunch Lenny took us to the town of Delft, which Beck had been to when she was younger, and she remembered it as a pretty town with a church in the middle. Lenny drove us past hot-houses to show us the local industry, and they all had schlotes (spelling?) around them, which is like water in a ditch surrounding the land, but they aren't as big as canals. All of the cars we have seen are tiny compared to America and Canada, and lots of people get ... read more

Well I guess one of the pleasures of working where I do is the chance to travel to the other offices in different countries, and this was one of those times. We were setting up the office to be connected with our computer network in London. We managed to get most of the stuff done over the Friday and Saturday which allowed us to do a bit of sightseeing on the Sunday.. ... read more

Victory! Another crushing blow of defeat was dealt out to fellow Cloister patrons last night as the mental giants of team ESSP scored bewildering 57 points, easily crushing the nearest team by a margin of 17 and the weakest team by a margin of 25. Ok ok, enough for the headline news style of blogging..even I'm annoyed. So yup, another great quiz night. Do you know what day the US Declaration of Independence was signed? Nope..not the 4th of July. Apparently it's the 2nd of August. See, I'm learning. This one was particularly nice since yesterday was a crazy hot day by Netherlands standards, so we did the quiz outdoors on the sidewalk, which was interesting since cars would come whizzing past within feet of us. It also made for an interesting music round because ... read more

After a tip from my friend Nick, Kat and I took a tram out to Delft to watch the Delft University Flugtag event. I was vaguely familiar with the concept because I believe Red Bull sponsors something similar in the states for marketing purposes. Basically, the Flugtag is about the school's aeronautical engineers trying to design a non-powered, manned aircraft (a glider, let's say) to be launched down a huge ramp over the town canal. The goal of course is to 'fly' as far as possible over the water. The fun here is that no matter how well your glider flies, you end up in the drink. It was AWESOME! These guys spend so much time designing and building these things just to fly maybe 6-7 feet off the ramp; and most of that is just ... read more

Yesterday was the going away party for a guy named Gordon, whose a cool Scottish bloke in our group. We started off with some company-sponsored drinks at the Half Moon (excellent) and then took a tram to Delft for a tapas restaurant. Holy geez...tapas is awesome. It was something like 12 different dishes we had....cream chese filled tomatoes, chorizo, meatballs, smoked salmon, potato wedges, jalepeno cream cheese poppers....and on and on and on. To top it off was a totally excellent dessert platter with fried ice cream, mango sorbet, ice cream cakes, the works. Definitely worth the tram ride and extra 3 pounds I must've gained. Afterwards, more beers at a pub, like you didn't see that coming!... read more

Quiz night in Delft Last night I joined the guys in Delft for 'Quiz Night' (they insist on 'quiz' and not 'trivia', by the way) at a quaint little pub off the town's main square. This was my first time to Delft, so I got there a little early to soak up the Great Market square, which is a football sized field of cobblestone with ancient ornate churches at each endzone. I plan on going back sometime to tour the churches and the pottery factories, so I'll have pics then. I could go on and on about how Vermeer was from Delft, and about the church with the broken back, but then if you really wanted to know, you could just go here: http://www.delft.com/ As I'm sure these touristy little adventures of mine are getting old ... read more
