Stayed at a very nice hotel at the airport last night and are enjoying a simple breakfast - purchased at a well stocked grocery store in the airport - as we wait for our flight home. Gee noted this morning that we have traveled through 4 countries on buses and trains, through cities, towns, villages and countrysides and haven't seen any liter or homeless encampments. Pretty sure we could not do this anywhere in the U.S.! Wonder why?... read more

M & A are there, of course. They give us the last ride to the airport and wave us goodbye in front of the control pass. A short farewell is the best farewell, but the camera catches it all, so we can watch it over and over again. The flight to Reykjavik is short, we scale there for 2 hours before the last jump over the ocean. When we get out of the plane we are hungry though, and the nightmare starts. We told us from the beginning that we want to stay on a low budget, so the extremely high prices in the Iceland International Airport makes us struggle. When you sail in it becomes clear that the straight lines are intensively cultivated plots, with lots of little hidey holes for boats – it is absolutely delightful. Anyway we stayed at a JH near to Allsmeer and rode our bikes to see the historical ... read more

There’s a saying that it’s the little things that count……and I thought we would share some of these with you. But before I do that, just to say that this blog covers the route from the aforementioned large jachthaven where we had the most excellent meal and a bike ride to stock up, to Oudewater the witches village but no witch’s shop which we saw with Mike and Jacqui last time, to Brassemeer, a large but comparatively small meer close to Leiden. To do the last leg of this journey took 6 hours and entailed a very large sluis with floating boards at water level which are no help at all, and 9 lifting bridges. The route was quite pretty as we are well in the area of commercial flower growing and the gardens of all ... read more
