After being on the hard for a month in Lelystad it was time to take a few days and explore a nearby town located on the opposite side of the IJsselmeer (large freshwater lake created by the dyke). Like so many others we love to travel and we love to sail so cruising makes a lot of sense. Janice has retired from Cornell as a business manager and Bob has retired from South Seneca school district as the high school principal. It's time to sell the house, get rid of whatever doesn't fit on our 40 foot Caliber LRC named Tsamaya (this means Travel Well in Setswana) and set off to see the world. Weekends Are Very Busy

In the center of town boats were rafted up 5-7 deep – glad we were not here!

The Western Church & Bell Tower

Originally built in 1519 & the clock was added in 1524

Plaques on Buildings Abound

as well as decorative door lights.

Canals and Boats Are Numerous

in Enkhuizen making for lovely views.

The Bell Tower of St. Pancras Church

was built in 1450 & heightened in 1518 with the addition of the onion top and tower.

An Old Lock Entrance

leading to yet another canal.

Many Traditional Dutch Boats

lining the piers here in Enkhuizen.

Large Wooden "Paddles"

used when sailing as the bottoms are flat and do not have a keel.

Mechanical Winches

on the traditional sailing barges for doing the heavy work on board.
