at the Weema's
It is always hard to say Good Bye, special to Family. But it was time to say goodbye to Etten Leur and Jola and Hugo. Even the weather was crying. Showers were obstructing the view over the pretty Dutch landscape. As always we were so nicely received by the Family Weema. Just inside the door and the coffee and apple cake was served. So much to tell it filled the whole afternoon. That night the Weema's took us to a Chinese restaurant, where a very nice meal topped of this exciting day. The weather did not help so the following day was mostly spent inside, except for the evening. With the four of us we went to this small restaurant, called; "De vierde Baarsjes". A lovely place, very romantic that has those special dishes, like Chateau Briant. It is prepared at your table by a chef that tells you joke after joke while he without any effort prepares the Strogenoff sauce that is made up from lots of ingredients that are spread out on his work bench that is on wheels. This is one of those nights you never forget. Next day the weather had changed and the sun was showing

it.s face. A visit to the Apenheul was on the program. For that we had to travel to Apeldoorn. It sounds as if it is miles away, but the distances here are so small. It was just an hour away. Drivng in Holland is like a traffic school. Special in townships where you have to watch the bikes and walkers who think they have, and in most cases do have the right of way. Instead of looking once, you look more than once to be sure. Driving on the freeways is the opposite. You follow the stream and make sure you keep to your lane and do not worry what is next to you. The Apenheul was nice. We all have seen monkeys, but here they have a free run and for that reason you have to watch your possesions. When possible they look into your pockets to pick things. There are bags available to put your valuables in. The explanation about the gorillas in the theater was an eye opener. Very well done. It also showed how succesful the Apenheul is with the breeding of the gorillas. It was a visit worthwhile. We were very happy to finaly have

seen the Apenheul. We had to throw ourselves back in the traffic and find our way home. We will be a few more days in Amsterdam but will talk about that next time. Bye for now Liz & Allan.
