Sunrise At 36000 Feet en Route To Amsterdam. Madness.
Its Sunday 2nd July, quarter to eight in the evening. We've been in Holland for 4 days now and have loved every single second that we have been here. It has been nothing but madness. We are running on 2 hours sleep today after we attended sensation white last night.
We left Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday night on one very long drawn out 12 hour flight up to Europe. Wether you call it fate, coincidince, destiny or an act of god, all i can say is we have been extremley well looked after. You may remember in my previous blog i mentioned about the dutch couple Jan and Suzanne who were strangers that we bumped into and got talking to in china town in Kuala Lumpur and socialised with for an evening, and then after chatting with them discovered they were on our same flight up to europe. We meet them at the airport in KL and boarded the plane together, then discovering we had seats (that are pre booked by the agents) next to them. It spins my mind thinking of the chances that this occured, specially having seats next to them on our flight!
Anyhow
aboard the plane we meet some great air hostesses who looked after us and bought the boys the lemonade vodkas and Heinekens when ordered. Lance was a bit cramped up as to was I, and as the plane had no TVs in the seats infront of us, we had to find other ways of keeping ourselves amused. Anyhow after 12 hours we got to know the air hostesses pretty well and we have been so fortunate enough to have been well and truly looked after by a fantastic lady by the name of Marlene. After the flight she waited whilst we cleared customs and she caught the train with us after and made sure we made it safely from the airport to Amsterdam city.
The sights of Amsterdam blew us away, and after almost being run over by the trams on several occassions (forgetting to look to the left rather than the right when crossing roads) we made it up to the hotel to drop our bags of. It was only 730am in the morning and had to fill in time untill 1pm. We headed up to a park and slept and then had a few drinks at a

mixing it up with the Airline staff. bar. I had an embarassing situation in one of the toilets (toilets cost 50c to use!! And its in the bar!!!) It had transparent glass doors and the sign said the transparancy would dissapear once the door was locked, i locked the door but couldnt understand why there was a kid looking in at me staring and laughing. Anyhow lance who was also in the toilet found it rather funny, me rather embarassing. Sat there doing my buisiness with the world watching... Welcome to europe.
That night after a 5hour sleep in afternoon we headed up town to a club called Paradiso which is in an old church. After that we headed to the red light district just to see what it was all about. Was pretty blown away by the surroundings of the red light district, especially being hunted by the drug deallers who would come up to you saying "Cocaine, Ecstacy i got the good stuff, what you want", it truly felt like we were in a movie or something, again never had any experiences like this back home. You try to say no but they are somewhat simmilar to the people in china town, dont seem
to back down.
Friday we meet with Marlene (the air hostess from our flight) and we took a cruise on the Canal. The architecture of this city is so beautifull. After that we then went with her to her work party which was for the pilots and hostesses / stuards of the airline she works for. It was held at a club situated about 40mins north of the city. It was one awesome night. We went with her friend Suzanne and it was a dressup sports theme. We were not prepared so just wore our board short s and said we were surfers...lame i know. We are in the peak of summer over here and the club where the party was at was right on the beach. The sun did not go down untill around 10.45pm at night, so was not dark untill around 1130pm!!! Loveing that! Something which we dont get in NZ! Great night out socializing with the dutch. Is so strange being amongst so many people who dont speak english as their first language, especially when people just waltz up to you and start farting some odd words at you. Luckily for us most people here
speak good english, so as soon as you say "english" they smile, laugh and repeat in english.
Saturday was spent recovering and then sat night we headed to Sensation White. Wow what a party. The production was amazing, the swarms of people even more amazing. The party itself was a little bit of a let down due to the style of music played. The opening was incredible, a massive 10minute extravaganza with fireworks and everything else which amped the crowd to no ends. The dutch really know how to put on parties. The opening DJ playing some mad progressive trance which sent the stadium into a frenzy, but from about his 4th track onwards untill 6am it was basically just underground dark trance and tech trance with a mixture of tech house thrown in there. For those of you who attended the last Gods Kitchen out at Manukau in Auckland, well if you remember Eric Morillos set, it was similar to that. So frustrating when you feel the music building up then it just drops of. The absolute high light of the night was...wait for it Jig, the surprise apperance of Tiesto!!! Freaken madness. For those of you who
Sea Of White
This Was Sensation! Biggest Party Ive Ever Been To. Madness. dont know about dance music, Tiesto is the Worlds Number 1 DJ, so you can imagine how excited I was and how the crowd reacted to his apperance. 6am Ferry Corsten took control of the turntables and took things up a notch. After some phat anthems it all came to an end and we headed back to Amsterdam on the train. Over all an amazing experience. The only other crazy thing was that at the dance party, they were cooking pizzas...which ive never seen before. Obviously for all the pot heads! But strange as to see people eating pizza and people making pizza at a rave.
Tonight is our last night in Amsterdam. I have just come up to finish typing this blog. Lance Marlene and Myself got noodles and ate them down on a piere at one of the canals right opposite her apartment. Another scorchin day here today. Hit 30 today on the temp charts. Dinner was interupted by some raving english goons who are well wasted on alcohol and philosophers magic mushrooms. Also saw a party boat coming down the canal. Think it might be the contiki tour that we are about to go meet. 3
Our Last Meal In Amsterdam
Down At A Canal With Marlene. buses came into Amsterdam tonight from London. Feel really body tired as running on 2 hours sleep from last night. But will walk up town to meet them shortly.
We love amsterdam to pieces would definatly come back here for sure. Shops dont open till 10am, every thing is laid back, people are chilled out. The streets a filled with thousands of push bikes. Nothing flash thoe, i think the newest bike ive seen on the streets is probably a 1960's model of some sort!
Next stop is Munich which we drive to tomorrow. Not sure when the next chance to update this site will be. WIll get lots of photos thoe and post them at a later stage. Its hard to update photos to the site as none of the internet machines at the hostels have ability to update photos from our cameras.
Lots of Love to all.
Missing you heaps.
James and Lance
