In the morning Helmar was very kind and drove us to the train station. Upon arriving we told Helmar that we wanted to buy him breakfast as a thank you for everything he had done for us while we were there. (He was such a fabulous host!) Much to our begging he would not have it, and brought us out another 2 big coffees and 3 huge sandwiches. After asking which one he wanted he said he wasn’t hungry (What?!), so all 3 sandwiches were for Derrick and I, oh boy! We were trying not to be rude so we finished what we could of the three sandwiches then said our goodbyes, Helmar was going to try and meet us in Berlin so hopefully we will see him there! We got a fairly early train since it was going to be a little bit of a hike up to The Netherlands, but luckily once we got on the train we found window seat this time (win!).
It started to ride on the train ride up to Holland and by the time we got to Amsterdam it was raining steadily, this turned out to be the theme of our entire trip
here.
Amsterdam is such a cute city and definitely one of the most unique! There are so many little canals going through the city and all of the bikes! There was even a multilevel bike parking area, crazy! We found our hostel then set out on foot to do some exploring (in the rain). We walked around until the rain got too heavy then we called it a night. Our hostel is nothing fancy, in fact, there isn’t even a common room to it, I was hoping to show Derrick how fun hostels can be and how many cool people you can meet, but this was not the hostel for that, I hope Berlin is better!
I woke up the next morning to more rain, uhhhhh! It didn’t stop raining the entire day. We headed out to see the Van Gough museum which was about a 20 minute walk away. We got there without problems in the light rain, but getting back was going to be another story! The Van Gogh museum was 4 floors of amazing art work, not only from Van Gough himself but from other artists during that period as well.
After spending a few hours
looking at the art we shopped in the gift shop then consulted the map before stepping outside to some heavy rain. We thought we were on the right path but after we had walked for over half an hour and things didn’t look familiar anymore we pulled the map back out (it was difficult since every time we looked at the map it got wet). We would find ourselves then continue on in the direction we needed, but then the same thing would happen, we wouldn’t be going in the right direction, so out came the map again, getting more and more soaked each time. We ended up being lost for 3 hours in the rain and by the end of it our map was pretty much disintegrated (as well as our tolerance for rain!). By the time we finally made it back to the hostel we were cold, soaked, and tired.
I took a long shower then a much needed nap before we went out and got dinner. We wanted to go out after dinner but it was still pouring outside so stayed in and had a pretty lame night of playing cards. It was an early night

I took this picture the day we left. It was actually sunny! as we had another early train to catch in the morning to Berlin; I hope the weather is better there!
