July 15-18-Amsterdam, Netherlands During our first morning in Amsterdam, Alexis and I took a stroll through a park nearby our hotel. We could not believe how many people were taking advantage of the beautiful morning. Our first impression of the people of Amsterdam was, “Wow, these people are really active”. There were runners, bicyclists, rollerbladers, dog walkers, baby carriage pushers, and even people doing step ups on the park benches. The park was packed with attractive, fit people, creating an excellent environment to meet others with similar interests. I could definitely get motivated to work out every day if I lived near this park. Bicycle lanes run parallel to all of the streets in Amsterdam which makes bicycles a very popular mode of transportation. Tourists beware! Cyclists are on a mission and it may be necessary ... read more

Today was a very chill day just exploring the patios and restaurants that Amsterdam has to offer. We began with a canal cruise which we knew was a very tourist-y thing to do but we highly recommend it as it gave us a very different perspective of the city (and we were happy to be off our feet). Next, we stumbled upon a barge-patio. The patio was not licensed for serving food or alcohol, so you have to order from the pub across the street and take your food and drink out to the barge. This was a truly nice experience and we spent some time here just relaxing. We enjoyed seeing all the boaters going by with their European picnics, as well as the tourists in pedal-boats. After this we explored a little while longer ... read more

August 8 Today was a day exploring. We began the day with a tour of the Anne Frankhuis. Our trip has been an amazing journey through Europe and we discovered many fantastic details and histories of Europe. The Anne Frankhuis was a sober reminder of the many terrible things that have occurred throughout our history. It is important to remember these events because from these tales of pain and suffering we see the unbreakable human spirit which has an affinity for perseverance and strength. The Anne Frankhuis left us in a bit of a reflective mood and we took some time to sit quietly by the canal for some coffee and traditional apple cake. After our snack we weaved our way through the Old and New City. Eventually we found ourselves in the infamous Red Light ... read more

I woke Theresa up at almost the crack of dawn. I woke her at 8 but for her that was the crack of dawn. She whined to get out of bed so I pulled her out of her bed but she still fought to get out of bed. So I poured water all down her face then she got up and went to the bathroom. She got changed and we got out of the door. Today we had to return our rental car since we had to leave tonight to go to the airport. It was the last time Theresa and I were going to eat our signature breakfast for a long time and that was saddening. We got a load of the extra breakfast and dropped of our car and our taxi dropped us home. ... read more

Today we got up at 9 o'clock. We bought breakfast from our favourite cafe. I bought a hash brown and cappacino but Theresa bought a latte. Theresa prefers change, I don't. Today Theresa and I went shopping today. We went to every single shop in driving distance in Netherlands. We went into every single shop that looked interesting. It was quite funny because Theresa did not even have any idea how much money she was spending. After a while I told her to have a look in her purse and see how much money she had. Not that that stopped her though, she still kept buying. I have to admit I am quite glad to see a metropolitian shopping centre. For lunch we had whatever was in the shops. Not a lot just enough to give ... read more

Today was like the ultimate lie in. Theresa and I didn't even bother to get up at a suitable time. We got up at about 11 but sat in our beds until about 1 o'clock. Then we actually got out of bed because we were starving. We got dressed and walked out of our hotel to go get some breakfast. It was freezing outside!! Theresa and I were already wearing many layers and we were still freezing! We saw this guy that was walking past in a singlet and shorts?! I am not even sure how these people can stand the cold. Growing up in Australia I thought our winters were freezing. Now that I am in the Netherlands, I find their summers the coldest! Thank goodness I am not here in winter I might have ... read more

Today was another late start. I am starting not to care though. Today Theresa and I were going to check out the 17th Century Canals. Today I was taking the nap in the back and Theresa was driving. It took us about 40 minutes and it might have been sooner if we actually had any idea where we going. Since Theresa was driving she decided that we should just drive and when we saw the water we were there. When she had finally given up and asked me if I had the directions, I pulled out a slip of paper from my bag and passed it to her. The canals were beautiful. I was pretty cool. I was a bit scared though, we almost tipped the whole boat thing. Theresa looked as if this was the ... read more

After our exciting advenure yesterday, Theresa and I had a lie in. Correction: Theresa said that if we had to go anywhere today she would kill me and throw me out the window. So today she made me get up at the latest time possible. We got up at 11 o'clock, (THE HORROR!!!) and had left over pizza from last night for breakfast today. More like lunch actually. We finished all the pizza in the box and we were still hungry. Now Theresa was forced to get out of bed and get dressed. Of course by the time she was finished it was about 12 o'clock. We walked to our favourite cafe and ordered a cappacino and hash brown each, our signature breakfast. Today we decided to have a look at the shop that were further ... read more

This morning there was no wasting time. I literally pushed Theresa out of her bed and shoved her into the bathroom at 8. She was about to slap me but I threatened to throw her straightner out the window, so she didn't object. She dutifully got dressed, in record time if I do say so myself and we were ready to go by 9 o'clock sharp. This time I made sure that both Theresa and I had brought everything we needed to bring for example our camera's. It was actually a really long drive to The Kuekenhof Gardens and Theresa slept like a baby in the car. Which I meant I had to drive for an hour. First of all though I bought breakfast. 2 hash brown's each and 1 cappacino's each from our favourite cafe, ... read more

Today was an alright day. Theresa and I had a late start to the day. We got up at about 10. We took our time though, it didn't really bother us on late we were. It obviously didn't bother Theresa because she insisted on straightening her hair, applying her make-up and reading her magazine before we left. Personally I thought she could have done this on the plane instead of keeping me up, but nooo she had to do it then! While I was waiting for her I wrote down directions to The Kuekenhf gardens. Theresa and I were planning to go there to day with Theresa. Theresa was interested to take alot of pictures of the tulips all at different times of the day (obviously not at dawn). After her highness herself, (Theresa) finished what ... read more
