Here are the house pics I promised a few days ago... Turns out double A batteries here are 1.2V, whereas the ones I need for my camera are 1.5V. So I get to keep looking for more batteries I guess. I'm sure I'll find some somewhere. I went to market today, but my camera was not working due to the battery problem. I accidentally slept in today, and then found out that the market is only open until 1pm! So I went down as fast as I could, and got to wander around for a while. Ahoy! Today has been a good day, but started out slow. I didn't get to sleep last night til after 3, so I didn't wake up til after 11am, but fortunately everyone else had a slow morning as well so breakfast was really only just starting. Pancakes were yummy, but a little different from how I make them, they were pretty doughy, a lot thicker and not fluffy. I'm going to make pancakes for them as soon as I get a chance. After breakfast, there was a bunch of lazing about. Mariska was trying to avoid painting her room at her house, Marit and Jesse were studying, but Marit offered to go to town with me so I just relazed for a bit til she was done, Jesse came too. Spreekt er heir iemand Engels? (does anyone here speak English??) No I'm not in Sittard right now, but my train DID go through there, and I wasn't sleeping, so it's still correct. I still haven't really slept, napped for 2 hours but then there was dinner and I didn't want to miss that. I got Joel's address, left the library, and then absolutely failed to find his house. The problem was that the map was really not that great for the area of town I had to navigate (sure sure, she blames the map), and there were streets on my map without names, and Joels street was actually not on my map but off an edge of it, however I thought I had a general idea where it was when I left the library. Just checking in real quick... Made it to Maastricht. Had a delay on my flight to Seattle, Didn't sleep in the airport, slept 1/2 an hour at Seattle, slept 3 hours on the plane, so in the last 40 hours thats how many hours of sleep? I feel foggy. Plane ride was good, long, sat with a friendly older Czech/Italian guy who told me about his dentist appt he's going to Europe for, and why he doesn't like Germany and why pizza is good. Had a beautiful view of Amsterdam flying in, sun was just starting to light the sky and all the city lights were glowing. sorry for not writing in such a long time everyone! i am trying to remember what i have done lately. two weekends ago i went to go visit my sorority sister in the netherlands. she is studying in maastricht. i had to travel all alone to the airport and then all the way from eindhoven in the netherlands to maastricht. it was strange to not have anyone with me, but i got there in one piece and it was a big achievement to do it all alone. it was so nice to see someone from home. we spent a lot of time being boring and looking at people from schools webshots. it was nice to do something so normal, it made me a little homesick. we went to this really fun irish pub, they have them ... read more
