Il me semblait n’avoir ... read more

We had originally booked a trip to go with a family run small company to Comino today. It cost a bit more but seemed worth it, however they had to cancel due to not working because of the elections this weekend. I don't understand the reasoning, but it meant we had to find an alternative. Captain Morgan Cruises are a lot cheaper, offer free food and drink (including booze and soft drinks) plus free (and as it turned out non-existent) wifi. But our hearts sank when we saw the giant over-crowded boat that turned up. Struggling to find a seat, I eventually bargained with an Italian group to get us two seats with a table upstairs that was open but covered, so with sun protection. I was still a bit dubious. In a nutshell, Captain Morgan ... read more

Malta day 5 June 5th A boisterous boat trip to the Blue Lagoon with my chavvy wife Before we set off for Malta we did some research into boat trips to the blue lagoon on Comino Island. We were recommended a trip with Barbarossa cruises who we paid a deposit to. Two days ago they said that they had to cancel our trip because of some people not working because of the recent election. Judging by the vast hordes of people who came on our boat let alone the many other boats at the lagoon we are a bit dubious about this. They gave us our deposit back and we spent it on a cheap and far from cheerful trip for a measly €17 including a buffet lunch and unlimited drinks. A bargain you may say. ... read more

Today we've booked a cruise to the small and virtually uninhabited island of Comino which is between Malta and Gozo. We've heard a lot about its legendary Blue Lagoon, and its caves that are only accessible by speedboat. Our craft is called the Fernandes, and it's described on the website as a "Schooner Rigged Turkish Gullet". I don't know what this really means, but it sounds very luxurious and romantic. We're both very excited. Shortly after the time that we're supposed to be picked up, an open topped double decker tourist bus lurches around the corner into the hotel. It looks like it's about to tip over. We hope it's not our bus, but this hope is quickly dashed. We get in and it speeds north through a maze of back streets. This seems a bit ... read more

Geo: 36.0149, 14.3389Official Population of Comino: 3. So you'd think this tiny little island would be a quiet getaway, but nope! Hordes of tourists come by the boatload every morning for the famed Blue Lagoon, perhaps the most beautiful spot in all the Maltese Islands, except when it's swarming with hordes of tourists! With Mellieha a short distance away from Cirkewwa, departure point for the Comino ferries, we could've easily done Comino as a day trip, but decided to spend the night on the island at its lone hotel, in order to enjoy the island without the hordes, at least for a short time. However, that wasn't the case at the Blue Lagoon, as the last of the day trippers didn't leave until nearly 7 PM, when it was too late to properly enjoy the place. But ... read more

Ok, you know when sometimes people come back from their amazing holidays in the Caribbean Islands or Fuerteventura and keep telling you about the PARADISE that they visited! Well, no need to be jealous anymore if you've been to Comino . Yes yes yes! The wonderful name "The Blue Lagoon" gives it all away (I'm sure you've all tried the famous drink!). It is such a pretty place, there are tiny boats that take you there from Malta (not too cheap though) and they generally run every 1hr and only operate until 7 pm if remember correctly, so you need to watch time! It is literally like from postcards from the destinations I mentioned right at the beginning. The water is just unbelievable: so clear! You know when you go swimming in such water, you kinda ... read more
