Quite a lot of rain in the night again. Most conveniently only while we were inside Tandy and asleep – though it rained so hard for a while it was hard to sleep through it as it lands very heavily on the roof just above our bed which is at the top back above the garage.
Woke to find ducks swimming on the water of the little river behind Tandy. Charming especially when we consider there are also trout in the water and birds flitting tunefully above it.
Rain was pretty persistent all morning, as we packed up and left our lovely campsite. Note to self :Next time we use this campsite ask for pitch 72b again.
Not much to say about the drive really as most of it was made in rain, some drizzle, some heavy. I managed a few not very inspired photos but tricky when I have to avoid the windscreen wipers as they pass across the screen and the raindrops on my side window.
Some of the 150 mile drive was quite scenic and we passed through a couple of interesting looking towns but without stopping.
Bob was avoiding motorways
as much as he could. We went north west and then due north via Luneville (a run down looking town with a big chateau), Silly(-en-Saulnois) ,Metz and Thionville. I like to follow the route Tomtom takes us but now tricky as we forgot to put the Europe / France road maps in (they are somewhere out on the office desk at home) so I only have the vaguest of Europe summaries from the German road atlas I bought as we arrived.
Arrived at campsite at 12.50 to find ourselves in a queue behind 3 others as reception didn’t open until 2pm. Started to eat lunch as the caravan in front moved forward and we discovered reception had after all opened at 1pm. Lunch fortunately stayed on the table as Bob moved Tandy forward too.
Booked in and paid for 2 nights using ACSI. Site is Bon Accueil just a short distance south of Luxembourg City. We will take the bus in tomorrow.
By 4pm the campsite had lit up the Complet sign outside. All pitches taken. Good thing Bob had planned to arrive early enough. This is the only campsite in reach of
By the time we were on our pitch the rain had stopped and the sky was blue and it was quite warm again. Had a stroll round the park behind the campsite and the road in front to locate the bus-stop and generally had a restful day finishing with a drink in the campsite’s little café before I made dinner.
Awful weather forecast has not materialised. Sky went horribly black at 8.30 and storm was forecast then but 100 drops of rain later sky back to blue albeit still very cloudy.
Hopeful it will stay reasonably dry tomorrow as we’ve had such glorious weather this trip we would hate to spoil the record.
Pleased to discover I can speak French here rather than having to go back to my sparse German. All children here learn French, German and English at school.
Campsite is excellent, superbly clean and well appointed sanitaires, big flat all weather pitches but just a hint of being a little ‘controlling’ which we take to be maybe a Luxembourg characteristic. Showers are restricted to 7 minutes but you are allowed a maximum 3 minute break and
after 7 minutes the shower will cut off and cannot be used again for 5 minutes. Was a little concerned my time would run out as it took me 2 ½ of my 7 minutes to adjust the water temperature from freezing via scalding to useable !
