Storm coming...
After the hectic week in Riga a few days of rest and relaxation were called for. Matt and I headed down to Jurmala and the tourist town of Majori to find beach. We found about 10miles of it, golden sand stretching mile after mile in a big horseshoe shaped arc from Riga down. Things to do in Majori - much like Parnu really, a few bars, clubs and lots of people on holiday. We managed to find accomadation in a house just behind the tourist information centre. The old duck who runs the place really hasn't cottened on to the idea of service with a smile. The rooms were full of mosquitos but the showers were really good and the water - great both scalding hot and freezing cold available. For 5 lats (£5.50) a night it was good though. The Tourist Information Office had the most enthusiastic and friendly staff members I have ever seen anywhere - one girl would run down the street to point things out for us.

I had decided not to drink for a few days and go running some and enjoyed it a lot - caught up on sleep and relaxed on the beach

and read. Reading "To Kill a Mocking Bird" by Harper Lee, a childhood story set in Albama USA fantastic so far - recommended by my little brother - though I can't help thinking I should be reading Tolstoy or more Dostoevsky (any Latvian authors translated into English?) I was very impressed by Matt when he picked the most beautiful girls on the beach wandered over to ask for suntan lotion and came back with a phone number! Matt has decided to stick about in Riga for a week or to more - I have decided to head on to Vilnius in Lithuania and find out what adventures await me there.
