Today the plan was to go to the vatican & if it hadn't beem for max' s tenacity we would't have made it. after all the sites weve seen & all walking done, the last 2 days have taken their toll & I am feeling every bit of 50! But max persisted & got me up & atom & we headed off to Vatican. Its not summer but I hate to imagine the crowds then, as we lined up for an hour to get in the front door then gggrrrhhh!!!! They had 2 queues only, 1 to see the tombs of the popes, the other town see the dome via steps or a lift. We wanted only to see St Peters basilica & Sisteen Chapel but had to go in one line or the other. So we got in one to dome - wrong choice!!! For 45 minutes the
line didnt move & we were only about 3 metres frm the entrance! It was amongst the worst organisation we have ever seen! All these people in very official uniforms standing guard but not even bothering to tell us what the hold up was. We had bout 6 english speaking people come up.& ask us if we knew what going on! Noone was exiting either so some suggested perhaps their had been a medical emergency. Anyway we got completely jack of it & max moved the barricade & broke free! Followed by many others! Aussie troublemakers!
The line going to the tombs was constantly moving so we virtually walked straight in. we did the walk through here and this was how u accessed St Peters! It was unbelievable that the main tourist attraction in Rome could be so poorly organised, I got a good mind to write to the Pope!!!!
