Goodbye UK, hello Europe!! What a change!!! First stop, Venezia, Italy. What an incredible city, despite our limited time there and the crummy weather on the first day. Our place in San Toma was very nice and the owner Marco was delightful. Our cold was still progressing so we couldn't take advantage of all our time there, but what we saw was stunning, it is definitely a sight to see, and the gelati was yummy!!!!!! We quickly found out that Italy is not a great place for sitting, except perhaps for random steps with a slice of pizza. Sitting at cafes and restaurants often come with a service charge to match.

After leaving beautiful Venice and its canals, we took the 2.5 hour train to Florence where we met up with Ron again and stayed in his apartment there. Nice and old, the stairs were a bit of a struggle, so I made sure we only had to take those stairs once a day... First day was spent walking around and seeing the Ufizzi with its magnificent artwork. One thing I can say about the italians and their statues... they were not very shy about the naked form, I've never

seen so many naked butts and fronts in the one place!!!

Florence was beautiful and quite different to Venice with its crazy drivers, but we got used to stepping onto the road without really looking both ways - otherwise they'll never give way to you! Second day was spent around the markets and seeing the Galileo museum, that was pretty interesting, something I would recommend to the geeks out there (actually Adrian suggested we see it, not me!!).

Yesterday we took the train ride to Pisa to obviously see the tower, lots of tourists, Pisa is a lovely little city but I'm glad we didn't stay there because there's not much else to do there after half a day of walking around, plus the train ride from Florence was only 1 hour and very very cheap.

Today we arrived in Roma!!!!!!! After an adventurous taxi ride through the winding streets of Trastevere, we finally made it to the little apartment which is smaller than the Florence one, but brighter and in quite a trendy neighbourhood. We've already booked tours for the Vatican and St Peters tomorrow as well as Colloseum and Forum on Wednesday, so it'll be

Everything was fine once we had gelati.... the world was right again...
an early start tomorrow.

Anyway I better get off this thing, will upload photos at a later stage because this PC takes such a looonnnnngggg time to upload just one! Hope this finds everyone well back home.....

PS. As great as the pizza and pasta is here - I am missing food back home, Melbourne is very very good in having so much variety of food in the one place, something we have not seen in the cities we've been to so far.
