Bells of San Marco awoke us at 07.00h. A wonderful alarm. Laid awake for a few minutes, then up and shower. Good breakfast in nice salon.

Out to the Doge's Palace for the extensive and very interesting tour. All furnishings have been removed ... they were regarded as private property of the Doge and so would be removed after his death. We toured the prisons as well. And, of course, walked the Bridge of Sighs.

We returned to the room so Kyla could nap, then went to lunch at a restaurant below the Rialto. We walked back to see if the Basilica was less crowded, but there was still a long line. So we went shopping. Paul bought shoes; Kyla acquired a watch. Got another watch for her friend, who was watching our pets. Back to the hotel for a cooling shower (the kids "bathed" in the bidet - weirdos). Paul went out to see if his shirt - lost in the Doge's palace - had been found. On the way back, he popped into a shop and discovered a very nice jacket. So we went back, I gave my seal of approval, and he purchased it. Very supple; like butter.

In the evening, we walked around the back streets and back canals, away from where the tourists congregate, to the Salute and Dogana. Watched the sun set over the bay. Saw the "leaning tower of Venice" - is it because the ground is settling? - and other interesting squares. So calm here, away from the tourists.
