Today was sail away day from Venice.
We were awake before 7:30 am again after having been up past 2 am. We weren't scheduled to leave Venice until 2 pm so we left the ship and explored more of Venice this morning. I had to use the restroom in Venice and when we finally found a WC (water closet)... it was 1 Euro to pee. Well, at least it was nice and clean! We went to the local grocery store (Coop) to pick-up Coke Zero and Fanta - for 1/4 the price the cruise ship would charge us ....and if I haven't mentioned
how the locals walk around with their dogs with them in Venice - well, they do.
And, these dogs usually do not have leashes - they simply follow their masters
everywhere. I am always amazed by this because Simon is so stupid and onry, I can barely get him to hang around me in the yard while I'm planting something... I know, we've tried a few times... but more likely than not, he gets distracted by a squirrel and off he goes for five
minutes. Simon would never make it in Venice. So anyway, we get to the grocery
store and
there is a dog, laying by the entryway, waiting for it's master. What a great dog. I got Kamie to take a picture. Past that, Venice was still amazing, still pretty, and still fascinating today.
We took a tiny train from the main area of Venice to the cruise terminal and it was packed with other cruisers. We counted eight cruise ships in port when we left Venice today - we
were the ninth. We sailed out of Venice through a different channel we had only partially viewed before. The sail away was fun! Kamie and I took tons of pictures because words cannot explain Venice. It's definitely a one-of-a-kind place. As soon as sail away was over, I curled-up in
bed. Lack of sleep, other people's germs, and going from hot and sweaty Venice to a cruise ship that is freezing most of the time has given me a terrible cold. I felt horrible this afternoon. I
was in bed, in our freezing room, sweating. Kamie went to the shops to look for meds but they were all out and then he went to the infirmary and the nurse gave him some meds - for less than
$4! They also told him that
the air on the ship can cause a sore throat/cold and so I remembered that on all our previous cruises, we have slept with our balcony door ajar so we can hear the
water but for some reason, I had not done that this cruise. Well, we have the door ajar now and we'll keep it that way. "Real" air seems to help my sinuses. I took a very short nap today and then woke-up and dosed myself. I started feeling better so we went to dinner and then we went to see a comedy show tonight. It was hilarious. I am feeling better but I need sleep so I must go now... it's after midnight here and our alarm is set for 7am... tomorrow we explore Dubrovnik, Croatia!
