Torri del Benaco/Lake Garda
Cycling around the shore of Lake Garda Our last day in Italy and Torri del Benaco! It was a lovely sunny and mild day so we decided to grab the bikes again and head off around the lake. The track around the water’s edge ran out after a few km so we took to the road with the mad Italian drivers and serious road cyclists. It was a bit scary so not too many minutes later, we headed back to a lakeside eatery and had a light lunch. At the spot where we had lunch fog hadn’t descended over the mountains just after lunch, I’m sure they would have looked pretty amazing from up there too. A whole floor of the castle was dedicated to a display of prehistoric rock carvings that have been found in the Lake Garda area and large stones for crushing olives dating back to Roman times were on display. A grove with very tall citrus trees built in the 1700s on the south wall of the castle is one of the few remaining groves in the Garda region. A drink on our balcony as the sun set was a satisfying end to a beautiful day.
This evening daylight saving ends in Europe so we get an extra hour’s sleep before heading north to Munich tomorrow. We’re off to a highly recommended restaurant for our last dinner in Italy…should be fun!
