01 On the bridge
Looking down the bridge. Geo: 45.8835, 11.3626
This morning dad, my uncle and I went for a short drive to the medieval city of Bassano del Grappa. We wandered around the old town, that is mostly surrounded by old city walls. This town is the home of Jacopo Bassano, a well known Renaissance painter. The main attraction is the Ponte degli Alpini, a covered wooden bridge that was designed by Palladio in 1569 to replace a bridge from 1209. This bridge is dedicated to the Alpines, a military corp very important to this city, especially during the I World War. In the mountains near here there were lot of battles (especially on Monte Grappa) and also during the 2nd World War.
After a wander around, we stopped for a drink, my new (temporary) favourite, hot chocolate. Hot chocolate in Italy is seriously thick, you don't drink it, but eat it with a smooth, it resembles thick custard!! Yum, yum!! Then we went home and waited to be picked up to go out for lunch.
