NUOVE ... read more

I really enjoyed staying for 3 nights in Pisa, and after all the social life back in the hostel over Christmas and New Year, but also travel restrictions, it was great to get away from the city. It was also nice and necessary too to escape from my routine or what had become a non-existent or at best, a very loose routine with strong emotions regularly sending me off track, resulting from everyday interactions from my housemates in the hostel. My nervous system had become jarred but as soon as I saw the greenery of Tuscany from the train window my nervous system slowly went back to normal, after leaving the noise and flyovers of Genoa. I was returning to a place where nothing bad had happened to me, and for that reason, I was able ... read more

I often go to this beautiful central park, now called the scottò garden or the SCOTTO so called by the Pisans. It is located east of the city, on the banks of the Arno, a stone's throw from Piazza Guerazzi. It is a very clean, green and well-kept park, and has a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. I love walking around the gardens, and going jogging there. It is full of flower beds and flowers of all kinds. There are also large plane trees, palm trees and labyrinths made of hedges. There are many benches and tables in the sun and in the shade, where I like to study outdoors. Above the tables there are wooden gazebos and I love reading in their shade. In September I read Psychologies magazine there and I spent many hours there ... read more

The old fortress was built in 1468, presumably on plans to which Filippo Brunelleschi also collaborated. On the banks of the Arno in the sixteenth century the Florentines built a defensive stronghold, the New Fortress. The construction commissioned by Florence and entrusted to Antonio and then Giuliano da San Gallo developed as an extension of the first fortified nucleus built in 1468. The fortress ended its use for military purposes from the seventeenth century. It was finally sold by the Lorena family to a Livorno shipowner, Domenico Scotto at the end of 1700. The Livorno family Scottò built a covered corridor for walks, starting its transformation into gardens. The public garden was built in the nineteenth century inside the New Citadel. Today it is a big park. REFERENCES ■Scotto family, Domenico Scotto, Livorno ■Wars between Pisa ... read more

Pisa...I have been here once, but just couldn't resist coming back. Now, if you’re looking for a lot to do, this may not be your thing. Of course there is the tower, and some other beautiful structures. but for me, it was the experience of going to the top of the freaking Leaning Tower of Pisa! I arrived, and after a little time finding my hotel, I headed into the main area where most all the tourists attractions are. From the distance I could see the leaning tower of Pisa, and my excitement was all over me. I had booked a tour of the town of Pisa, and this took me in some of the buildings and structures with the last stop going yo the top of the tower. I went into…..and learned the history as ... read more

Day 15 : Friday 20 September 2019 : Florence to Pisa to Vernazza Off we head on the train (AUD102 prebooked) to the Cinque Terre with a stop at the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Getting on the train was the most difficult as we didn’t know if we had to get our tickets validated. Started to worry, but its too easy if you’re tickets are pre purchased. Just walk on through and find the platform. We get off at Pisa (yay – the correct stop) and head to the Leaning Tower. Dumped our baggage at the station drop point (€20) and headed off, quite a walk but glad we went and saw it, we were so close. It’s really quite cool to see. Heaps of photos….yes you have to push it over in a photo. Head ... read more

On our way to Barolo we took a little detour to the clearly popular land of Pisa. Before walking into the area where the tower of Pisa attempts to stand, there was a market where Ania bought a fake Gucci belt which I think is funny. When we were in view of the tower, it was interesting to see all the people doing the same exact picture pose. I am not going to lie and say that this tower is very much worth seeing for it is really just a poorly built tower but it is still as pretty as the rest of Italy. We then left this God forsaken tourist trap (just kidding I like to exaggerate) and continued our way to Barolo, not before taking a couple pictures that lacked originality.... read more
