We are doing another day in Chianti, however this time we are based around Greve, not Radda. Our plan is based around a small vineyard tour and tasting at 2:30, so in the morning we parked in Greve and explored the township, stopping in a degustation cave (wine shop and tasting) which stocked about 1000 Chianti wines with many in self service dispensing units where you can preload a card with credit and use the card to purchase tastings of the wines. The service was not so good, so we didn't stay long. Our first drive up to a Vineyard was no so successful as they could take us for a vineyard tour and lunch, but it would have overlapped with our pre-booked tour and tasting so we decided to go to another Trip Advisor favourite ... read more

after a good nights sleep we had some breakfast and headed out to see the outdoor markets which is mostly leather goods and the food markets in a building beside the open air markets we bought some leather bags but not from the markets from a shop nearby. we had some coffee and Tiramisu for morning tea. then we picked up my jacket that was being altered and got a taxi to the airport to get our car. THE CAR is nice Audi a3 6 speed but every thing is on the wrong side not just the blinker, the gear stick as well, I keep grabbing the door handle to change gears and to top it off as we were driving cautiously from the hire place Esther was testing the controls and put the hand brake ... read more

Day 7 & 8 Slow Travel I don’t know why I always rest better here in Europe; but I do. Last night was no different, we went to bed around 9-ish, started reading and the next thing I know it’s 8 AM. WOW what a great nights sleep. As Kirsten is coming out of the bathroom she is smiling and saying get up sleepy head. I have a great breakfast for you, soft-boiled egg, cheeses, meats, fresh bread and coffee. It’s now 10-ish and Kirsten is waiting at the door to go. Where we going again, I ask. Well I have this map that I got from the, oh no! …….Here we go again. Just get in the car and navigate. We head out of town going south. Kirsten hands me this map I unfold it ... read more

This bed is as hard as granite, I love it, and Kirsten doesn’t. I wake up around 7 AM, shower and dressed by 7:15. I’m sitting in the court yard all by myself writing the blog. It’s brisk and the coffee is perfect, yea this is what I image heaven to be. We wrap up breakfast and load into the car. Today were doing Florence, yea were going to hang with David and Michelangelo. It’s about 22 KM north of our Agriturismo. We are they’re in less than 30 min, and Kirsten’s pulling into a parking space. Every time we come to Florence Kirsten has always snagged a parking spot. We are within walking distance to Ponte Veccio. We’re out of the car and walking and decide to walk up to the Michelangelo Piazza. I believe ... read more

Well it's been awhile since I've written, sorry! The internet was down for over 2 days & I've just been super busy! :-/ Internet is still back & forth but better than nothing! Everything is going really well here, I'm so happy :) Definitely missing everybody though. I'm trying to remember everything I've done so far. We went to Arezzo last weekend to a jousting tournament that was pretty intense, apparently it's a big deal there...there were people crying when their teams didn't win. There were others going crazy, throwing full water bottles at each other & the sticks of flags, pushing & shoving, screaming at each other & repeating chants for their team. I don't really get why it's such a big deal but it was fun to watch! We started school this week, but ... read more

Up for brerakfast at 8, Tuscan cheese, ham, breads and relish, croissants, jam tart & cappjucino, good start. Now to discover Chianti. We get to our car and the fog is thick, so we take it slow as visibility is poor. First to Grieve - from the main square we explore the shops - here has one of the most famous butchers in all of Tuscany, the place is full of prioscuitto and his trademark black pig salami and many other cuts. We buy a vacuum sealed pack of the salami for later. Another butcher down the end of the square has a small bottle of white truffle oil in the window and go in to check the price. The old woman only does Italian but is doing her best to sell us everything in the ... read more

Today was the day for Chianti…the region that is!! Dennis & “Bella” (the GPS) did a wonderful job once again of getting us to this region of Tuscany. We visited Greve in Chianti first. It was a fun town, with it’s two claims to fame as the place with a butcher shop that dates back to the 700’s and the home of Giovanni da Verrazzano (the explorer that the Verrazzano Bridge in NYC is name after). We shopped, walked, and had lunch in Greve. Then we traveled to a small winery in Rietine. We took a tour and had a tasting. The couple that own this winery have 12 hectares of land (not quite sure what that is, but it is not big), yet harvest 18 tons of grapes each day for six days during the ... read more
