I have been neglecting my diary – apologies.
Where do the days get to?!
Day 36
We went for a run this morning. Well only for ten minutes, but it was up hill. All part of the get healthy scheme, although I must admit that I am usually so tired at the end of the day that no exercise seems needed.
Then it was time to paint the pool chairs again. Even though I thought I had done a good job the first time round I missed some bits in the sunshine.
Jaime focused on sorting the garage again.
I feel like I am writing down the same jobs over and over, but everything is taking much longer to sort out than we initially thought.
We had actually scheduled in for both of us to work 4 hours per day resulting in 20 hours per week, but I’m working at least 8 with Jaime putting in up to 12 hour days.
Hopefully the work will reduce soon as we get on top of things and the annual maintenance jobs are done. Otherwise I’ll turn into a whinge muffin!!!
Day 37
Its Sunday and we have decided to
take the morning off and explore the area a little.
Yesterdays whinge did some good I think.
First we explored a little village called Barbischio and then drove on to a hill top prior
Monastery. We were home by mid afternoon though as neither one of us had much energy and neither Barbischio nor the Monastery were very interesting. The rest of day was spent taking it easy for once.
Day 38
Its Monday again. You would think that if you’re self employed, Monday’s would not feel like such a hardship……
Anyway, today I put on my builders hat and did some pointing on one of the front walls. Yep you heard correctly, girlie me did some pointing!
Jaime checked out my handy work when I was done and actually proclaimed that I had done a good job and he would not change it – praise indeed!
Then it was time to train some of the vines on the terraces. For anyone who thinks I am giving them lessons in Maths, training means to bend and tie the shoots to grow in the direction you would like them too. In this case it was in order to ensure the
terraces provide as much shade as possible in the hot summer months.
I didn’t enjoy being high up on the ladder to do this job but gritted my teeth and got through it. Then just to finish me off, some general leaf sweeping and I was done for the day..…
I cannot for the live of me remember what Jaime did that day. He seems completely occupied with cleaning the pool and sorting out the water irrigation – time consuming work!
Day 39
Its time to spray those pretty weeds again to stop them growing in an unruly manner.
And then I topped up the drive with gravel.
The gravel gets washed down the hill in heavy rain so has to be topped up now and then. I half filled my wheelbarrow with gravel and then whined my way down the hill to the drive. Passing Jaime on the way I proclaimed that I was done being a dirty builder girl and really wanted to put on some Make-up, bake an apple pie and wear a pretty dress. I never burnt my bra – Women’s lib, not today thanks!
Jaime took pity on me and filled a couple
of barrels for me and wheeled them down the hill where I spread the gravel with my rake.
Manicure anyone?
Day 40
Shopping day again.
We walked around Montevarchi to ensure we hadn’t missed any amazing bargain shops (nope didn’t) and then did the usual DIY and food shop.
In the evening I painted a little wooden box to keep some of my jewellery in.
Then we watered all the plants and it was time for bed again…..
Day 41
It feels like my day reports are getting shorter and shorter. Everything seems to be merging into one and I can’t remember what work we have carried out that day.
Maybe I should stop writing about work and try my hand at poetry……..maybe not.
Anyway, today we did some cleaning…….
Day 42
Veggie garden, weeding, leave sweeping, geranium planting , pool cleaning and irrigation…..haha, sorry must make more of an effort.
Jaime was telling me today that he had a little visit from a Piemartin by the pool.
He described it as being about the size of a cat, brown and with a long fluffy tail – I am so jealous he’s seen one as he was
also privileged to spot his first viper the other day. Just a quick flash of one sunning itself along the gravel road, but WOW a viper!
