amphitheater
amphitheater on april 25th- we hopped on a bus in st. marco's square up to fiesole. it was a beautiful bus ride up there, about 25 minutes. we arrive in the "town square" of fiesole, and head up to the museum and ruins. but before we do, becky and i go over to a nearby snack stand, and order a piedina de nutella, which turned out to be a nutella crepe. yummy!!!!!! then becky and i head down to the amphitheater and as i am marveling at it, she points over to one edge of it, and there is a small fashion photo shoot going on! there is the model in a shiny red mini dress and black pumps, a black male model (cute!) wearing brown pants and a jean jacket, and a scruffy looking photographer. it was really cool to see that. but no one else seemed to notice... weird. then becky and i went down to the ruins and she fell in love with the statues being showcased. they were faces and such kind of divided up and robotized. hard to describe. but we jumped into the baths (now grass) and ran around. then we headed up to the ruins
where there is a path winding through them. they were really pretty. then we go up to the cafe and have lunch. i order spaghetti, which was very good. we have a perfect view of the surrounding hills and mountains, which were absolutely breathtaking. the waiter was very nice. he spoke no english, but was a very nice man. after lunch, we all had cappuccino's. it was my first one. becky took a video of it (now on facebook, if u want to see it. you won't regret it!), and she was very glad she did. the night before this, i had been on facebook, and watched a video of my little second cousin eating meat for the first time. he was shaking and had a grossed out look on his face. he was practically in convulsions!! i showed becky and the mary's the video, and they were laughing so incredibly hard. so at the cafe, we were going to make fun of it after i had a little of my cappuccino. but after my first taste, i did the same thin! we didn't have to make fun of it, it happened!! it was great. then the waiter gave me
a really cool book about tuscany to commemorate my first cappuccino. like i said, he was really nice. then all of us headed across the way to the museum. it was interesting. they had lots of little trinkets they had dug up from the ruins and in the surrounding area. when becky and i were upstairs, we looked down into the central area, and saw mary and mary talking to a guard about a statue. it was really interesting to watch them talk to him. they were really interested. becky and i spied on them for a while. it was fun! then becky and i went back down to the ruins, and went to the other side, our "studio apartment". we did a fake tour of the ruins as if it was our apartment. fun fun! we continued exploring them and came across a sign that states in 9 different languages "Do not step on plants. Do not touch ruins. Do not climb on ruins. Do not go off of path." of course, we did all of those things. who cares! it was awesome!! after the ruins, becky, mary sue and i started the climb up to the san francisco
hill, the highest point in fiesole. it was the most exhausting climb e-v-e-r. once you get to the top, wow. there is a cute little church at the top. and the view, well, the pics speak for themselves. the climb down was just as hard too! but once we did get down, we plopped down on a bench, looked over, and the male model and photographer were right next to us! then the female model comes walking across the square with a duffel bag ( i am assuming her dress was in there, considering now she was wearing a t shirt and jeans). then next thing i know, we are on the bus. i look over, and they are a couple seats down!! it was so cool. then when we get back to st. marco's square, we actually ended up going the same way as them for a lot of the way home. it was an amazing day.

fiesole
Haley - great write-up of Fiesole, which I've never been too. Now I can't wait to go back to Italy sometime and see it! You are so right about the Marcus vs. Haley tasting videos... they are both great! I don't know if we told you, but we met a couple on a train from Rome to Florence one. They were on their honeymoon. We saw them 3 more times in Florence and two times in Rome. It was really weird! Now, almost 13 years later, we still get Christmas cards from them every year!
