We woke up with the sun rising over Dolomites. Our hostess had our breakfast ready and her two beautiful kids were running in and out just talking and playing. We took off toward Trento knowing we wanted to find wineries to taste the area wines and cheeses. The first one we came to was the Family Winery of the B&B we stayed at, Mazarado. It was huge and as we expected, very nice. From there we continued on SS12 heading up into the mountains. We quickly found a second winery and wellness hotel. We stopped and had a glass wine and olives. Very tasty, after finishing, we then continued to go up, up, up into the mountains. Kirsten was hoping to find a farm that would have a cheese tasting or some samples. Well that didn’t happen, however we did see lots of farms, but no samples to be had. As we continued over the mountain we came to the pass. This is where all the motorcycles stopped to have a beer . They had been flying past us like they were racing up the mountain. We stopped and had a beer and played in the snow. We then started down
the other side of the pass looking for more cheese farms. The ride was incredible, switch backs with steep downhill grades. Each time we thought we saw the best looking mountain cliff, but right around the corner was another. As we came around one switch back we came into the town of Calevasi and there it was a cheese store. Samples and all, Kirsten was sooo happy. From the store we continued down the mountain with cheese in hand. As we turned one of a hundred plus switch backs, we crossed the river and there was a beautiful water fall. I jumped out and took a couple of pictures.
We got back into the car and continued down the mountain back and forth going though the switch backs and then all of the sudden as we turned the corner we saw a sign to the city of Asiago. Well, you can imagine how excited Kirsten was. We headed up that mountain to see where Panera gets their cheese from for their Asiago bagels. When we arrived it was a very pretty town. We drove through and looked around. As we left Asigo and we were approaching the city limits guess
what…….a cheese outlet. Kirsten said she had to go the bathroom and insisted we stop. I have no idea why she asked me, she was driving. No sooner did she stop the car, she was into the outlet. As we were getting back into the car, I asked if she found the bathroom. She said yes as she was putting the bags of cheese into the car.
We continued down the mountain and made our way back to the B&B. We picked up a pizza for dinner and ate it while drinking wine under the stars in the Trento region. We covered lots of miles and found our wine and cheese samples.
