A sleep in this morning before we departed for Italy - jusy 45 minutes from Seefeld. it was not snowing today - but as we climbed up toward the Brenner pass - the temperature droipped from+7C to +0.5C - just cold enough to get some snow flurries. Our destination was Bressanone/Brixen, a town of around 15,000 and just 30 kms from the border. They have a neat Christmas MArket here, as well as an impressive cathedral and monastery. Due to it being so close to X-mas, we encountered a traffic jam getting into the old town area. What should have taken us 10 minutes took around 25 minutes. The town was crowded with other sightseers. There was not as much snow as last year - when we saw several snowmen that had been built in the old town. There was plenty of time to enjoy the markets and find a pizzeria or restaurant for lunch. Left around 2.30pm to head back to Seefeld...where we enjoyed another fine meal in the hotel and a few drinks at the bar. Our friends from Arizona, Mike and Dianne arrived and were staying at Gaesthaus Lasser, just a few minutes walk from the Hotel Central. They were very tires - so just had a beer with them in one of the town pubs, and they headed for a comfy bed and a good night's sleep.
Travelled to Europe in 1975, entered the tour business as a tour leader doing camping tours all over Europe, Scandinavia and North Africa. After 10 years started my own travel company specialising in European travel - particularly to Austria. Our most popular tours are "White Christmas" tours to Austria, Germany and Switzerland. I still escort selected tours - which keeps me abreast of what's happening in the tour business. As they say..it's not the destination..but the journey that creates the memories.... full info
