For a long time, my fiancé and I kept planning to go on a romantic vacation but we had no idea where would make for the perfect destination. We didn’t want to visit any of the usual suspects like Hawaii or Belize or Ibiza, and we were really stuck until we found out about Sardinia. It’s a little island in Italy and since we’d never heard of it and all the reviews we came across sounded promising, we started making plans to visit Sardinia. After that first visit, we intend on going there at least once every year until we’ve had enough and I doubt that’s going to happen.
Since accommodation
really nice resort Le Dune in Forte Villages down on the South Coast below Cagliari. Cagliari is the capital of Sardinia and we figured by staying near there, we’d be able to enjoy the wonderful resort and being near the capital easily accesses other parts of Sardinia without problems. This later turned out to be a great choice.
The entire trip was a sweet dream. We did so much and yet still left so much undone. We took our first day slow by having lunch at
The Belvedere which is this mesmerising restaurant which apparently has
just been given a Michelin Star. The food was great and
we were clearly off to a great start.
Next we visited the resorts exclusive beach set between
Pula and Capo Spartivento, which was simply a breath-taking beauty. The sand on the beach is a unique shade and the sea was like a huge swimming jewel with its colour variating between blue and green. We spent so long at the beach taking pictures, we didn’t realise the day was gone till we needed a flash for our photographs.
By the next day, our excitement from the previous day had gotten us over our initial jitters of being in an unfamiliar environment and we were ready to truly begin exploring Sardinia. The beauty of being in Forte Village is transportation - There’s a variety of transportation options to choose from to take you anywhere. We later discovered that walking wasn’t a bad idea if our destination wasn’t far as it gave us ample opportunity to experience more.
There’s not enough room to share everything we did in Sardinia but here are some highlights of the most memorable spots we visited
Is centu Scalas - Roman Amphitheatre We took a climb up a hill to check this place out after
a nice Italian couple mentioned it to us. It was like stepping back in time when we finally made it into the arena. Sure a lot of it has crumbled off but there was still enough left to leave us in awe and wondering about what activities they must had in there all those centuries ago.
Marina Piccola The bay where, they say, Ulysses was seduced by the sirens. We always intended on visiting the Marina and we did. And it took up the whole day because we kept being distracted by one fun activity or the other. Pretty much every type of fun was at the Marina and we took a tonne of pictures. And at night, we partied so hard and fell asleep on Poetto beach by accident. We woke up sore but I think it was worth it
Cala Gonone We took a drive to Cala Gonone to experience the
Grotta Del Bue Marino. It’s a sea cave and I’m not poetic enough to describe how cool and beautiful it was. We even saw some rock paintings in there and a particular rock formation that had a face like my brother’s for some reason.
We also visited
Le Bombarde Beach and went
wine tasting inAlghero, visited
Doria Castle in
Castelsardo, and went shopping in
Porto Cervo (which was really expensive LOL).
We hope to visit Sardinia again soon, and this time we are going fully prepared to really have fun.
