Fresh Produce
This store was closed for lunch but you can see the example of the fresh produce that is available here. I bet we will be shopping 2 or 3 times a week just to replensih stock because there are few preservatives used Bella giorno Debi and I went to a British Pub for dinner last night. The birre (McFarlands Golden- From Ireland on tap) was great, the burgers not so much. But I suppose we couldn't expect much. We wanted a break from pure Italian and now we know (at least until we find a place that is better food-wise) not to stray too far from the local fare, which BTW has been awesome so far. We ate at about 2100 which is the norm here, and got there just in time for the last period of a football match between Roma and Ulrechia (I think) - the crowd was decidedly rooting for Roma so I guess now I will as well - They won 2-1 with a great goal by Tutti at the last second. The place went ballistic and I had to join in - sorry no pictures of that but I willl get one next time. The atmosphere made up for the less than spectacular burger but it wasn't that expensive so we didn't cry about it very long. We stayed for about and hour and then left to roam about some and headed back to the hotel (Principi

This seems pretty erie but funny too. This shop near the Piazza Garibaldi, was filled with all sorts of oddities. But freaked out scary Micky Mouse topped our list. Di Piemonte - the c is a hard c - the langauage is still besting me totally but its just a matter of time) for the night. We watched a little USA TV from the SlingBox (which is working flawlessley BTW - highly recommended) then hit the rack.
Sunday morning started for me in the fitness center at around 0830 CET - did about an hour and 15 - cardio and weights and some floor work. Felt pretty good but have to get more focus. Been getting back on track with eating and actually living here will help since, except maybe for gelato, they don't eat any "junk food" and all of it is unprocessed and locally grown. Plus the eating times help as well. Also hooked up with several folks who are ciclista and who belong to clubs so once my biccicletta get here I will be in the saddle regularly (until winter sets in firmly).
After walking around town yesterday we found a church near Piazza San Carlo (a huge square with shops and eaterys galore) that advertised an english service. So we decided to attend that service at 1115. The Chiasia San Rocca was a short walk
Via Garibaldi
This shot is looking east toward the Po River - the building at he end of the via is the Torino Egyotian Antiquities Museum, supposed to be the second largest in Eurpoe. Haven't been there yet but plan on to on a future trip. from the hotel and we got there just in time. When we walked in the church was the traditional mediaval design with much statuary and sacresty and small pues. However, the folks sitting in those seats were anything but traditional. The first thing that hit us was the vibrant color palet being worn mostly by the black women in the congregation. As it happened Debi and I were attending the African Cattholic church in Torino. The service was in english because most of the Kenyans and Nigerians spoke 2 languages, French and English and the Italians in the congregation also spoke English so that was the common thread that tied them all together. The service was lively with great music and dancing and the sermon was fantastic - it focused on John's account of Jesus raising Lazurus from the dead. The priest, who was obviously African, used examples from nigeria which were lost on me and Debi but overall the message of this as the most significant miracle except for the Resurrection came through loud and clear, God is Good! We may go back next time - which will be in late May but we are not sure - we may look around and it will depend on where we find a place.
After the service we met with some of the congregation and chatted. They all welcomed us warmly and we saw some great love and good people there. It is a very friendly group. Then we left and headed for some light sight seeing and a lunch (pranza). Now it was about 1430 CET. Debi had seen a place on Piazza San Carlo called 'L Caval 'd Brons. The menu seemed interesting and kind of exotic so we aimed to try it. I had Tuna Carpacchio with caviar , basal and cherry tomatoes followed by Anialotto with Venison (small ravioli). Debi had Duck leg confiett with pate and seafood tagliatini. We liked it all and sat there for over a 90 minutes eating, talking, planning and generally taking it all in. Still can't believe we are going to live here - its sort of a foggy feeling thinking about it.
Walked back to the hotel and tried to find a cigar store we had passed by before but that didn't happen so back to the hotel we went. I felt a little guilty and ambitious so I went back down to the spa for a little more workout. Debi followed a little later and we both took advantage of the great pool with 5 jaccuzi stations (I have some pictures I will post later - as soon as they download over the EDGE connection we get in the hotel room - so maybe tomorrow LOL) . Back to the hotel room and sat down to give this a go.
Anyway, we miss everyone. Tomorrow we start the apartment hunting - Lorenza (our realitor - if you can call her that) has plans to show 10 places on Monday. That sounds like a lot but we'll see. We have camera, we have tape measure, we have pros and cons and we have a budget. So, I will see you all tomorrow with more news on what we found and hopfully some pictures of the best and worst of the lot.
Arrivedreci from Torino,
Gary & Debra
